Wellington here. Between Norwalk and Dragway 42. Though, i am currently in nelsonville. Still tryin' to find any rodder's from down this way...
I have been trying to find out info on The James Smith Speed Shop. I have a Jacket with a giant patch on the back with that name. What time period was that shop around?
the drag strips are your best bet.....the stick shift racers club is VERY cool....Pistons have some nostalgia racing going on, Slick Devils, Desciples. will post on HAMB when I get the dates........later Haney
OMG...I havn't seen one of those since around 1968....probably was used by one of the many guys racing at Thompson Drag Raceway at the time. Now that brings back some memories. The Shop lasted from the mid'60's to the early '80's when we sold out at the new owners let it go away.....the latter days were mostly m/c items; Jammer, Drag Specialties, Dixie, tec.,etc,. I think the last car to run the James Smith Parts Co. logo was a '68 Camaro Pro Stock. Damn...really brings back some memories though!! Thanks for posting this!!!
The funny thing about the jacket is it ended up way out here in Phoenix AZ. It is cool to get some history. I was guessing mid to late 60s on it with the style patches on it. Here is what the front looks like.
Actually; the original owners of The James Smith Parts Co. began spending the winters in Phoenix around the mid '70's. Phoenix became a hub of warmth we would visit for many years. That jacket looks very well kept. What is amazing; how small Phoenix was in those days..just a small town in the middle of the desert. I'll still take Ohio !!!!
Every time one of these threads pop up, I ask this question. One day I'll find out. Anyone remember the Moody/Thompson Willy's that ran in the late 60's early 70's era? And if so, does anyone know what happened to it?
My neighbors cousin worked for Mickey Thompson for many years; next time he comes by I'll ask if he knows. Can't hurt to try!
DANNYEGO ... for some cool car shows! Check out Boardman on Saturdays. (The old Sam's Club parking lot) Austintown on Sundays. (Quaker Steak and Lube.) Lowellville on Monday evenings. (Right on main street) If you see a guy with a white go-tee and a big camera say hi! That will probably be me. GaryC.
That is cool to hear about the owners. The jacket is amazingly well kept. I don't think it was worn much to speak of. I am basically a native to Phoenix and take the heat much better than the cold. The biggest problem I have with the place is there are just too many people
I still run into Giaco, and he's till with Bedford Heights last I saw him. His old 56 was killer. I used to take my bone stock 57 Ford Custom 300 to pals when I was in high school 86-88. I want for a HAIRY ride with Tom Krebbs in his 57 Ford. He scared the shit out of my girlfriend riding in the backseat. That place was awesome, watching the street racing, true rodder scene, but you had to piss in the woods. What cars did you guys that cruised Pals have back then?
You pissed yourself? WHAT?? haha. oh i see Don't worry, i'll be back soon enough. I hope to have some time off in August and September then be all done by July of 2010 I think maybe my post wasn't clear... i meant rodders down here in SE ohio . I do know the pistons, Slick Devils, etc pretty well. Thanks anyway! -ace
I Had a '66 Goat it was a triple black ragtop, tri-power 4 speed , and a few others of mine made an appearance. very fun time
The car ran 12.0 on the dial ,at the strip with pump gas and street tires. the guys that street raced in the eighties down at quigly [ Cleveland] flats know the car well. And NO I WILL NEVER ride in the same car with coldwar again ! ! ! fuck that ! ! will scan and send you a pic. the car looked kinda sleeperish from a distance until you got close and seen the roll cage etc.
had a 67 gto tiger gold with a hood tach and gragars. Always kept the gragars when car sold to put them on next ! ! I hope to never run into your avitar at the strip. that thing looks wicked. Haney
Ace, I know where there is supposed to be an old abandoned junk yard between you and Athens if you ever get bored and want to go look. Might be a wild goose chase but the source hasn't been one to lead me astray before.
On the east side, we had Ronny Potter with his fuel cars. He was doing real good with his last funny car and had that accident at Ganesville,Florida and that was the end of his career. Ronny was a stone cold hillbilly and Lue Navotney used to call him the "Padueka Flash" after the town in Kentucky.
I think your closer than an ear shot. I could throw a rock from your house to the track (honestly i could come close). And i cant wait till that BBQ this year, last year was awsome!!!!! Everyone needs to come!
