    Sideways is right! And "Wild Willie" was
    famous for steering that monster one
    handed too, with one hand on the wheel
    and his other hand holding on to the side
    of the body!!!:eek::eek:

  2. I love this car so much, and would love to build one like it to race locally.

    That's all solid in the rear eh? no suspension at all?

    For a drag race application, is this the best way to go? Or should I go with the lakester style rear engine setup with a suspension and a pivoting frame that holds the motor/trans/rear together?

  4. This was getting ready for Cacklefest at the CHRR in 08?.Behind the little red Dragster is the Steinegger & Eshenbaugh Fuel Dragster,and behind that is the Frantic Four Fuel Dragster.
    Larry Steineggers pushcar or truck took a dump at the last minute & needed somebody to pushstart their Dragster.
    I was there with my wife in a rented golf cart & thats us behind the S&E car.
    My dad raced in the Phoenix area from time to time & was friends with Larry Steinegger.
    I remember we were all waiting for awhile & I kept hearing someone yelling,but kinda muffled.
    I finally figured it out & went back & told Norm Weekly to settle down,,he was pissed because it WAS hot & we'd been sitting there for awhile lol.
    Steve Gibbs wasn't happy seeing the S&E car being pushed by a golf cart,but what were we to do?,,There were no more golf cart push starts after that,that I know of.

    For those who like early rear-engine dragsters, I compiled a photo-listing of many rear-engine cars that pre-date Garlits' successful car that popularized the RED. It is called Early Rear-Engine Dragsters: A Sampling of Cars and Drivers before 1971.

  6. I believe Garlits ran a Quartermaster 2 speed, overdrive transmission.

    It belonged to Marlo Treit, and was Turbonique powered, here are some shots. As I remember, it weighed 360 lbs. Only saw it run a couple of times. 2013-11-07 110333.jpg 2013-11-07 110645.jpg 2013-11-07 110716.jpg 2013-11-07 110741.jpg
