I just got some cool old photos from my grandfather. He wants me to retouch them. I haven't gotten around to doing this one yet, but I thought some of you might enjoy it. I have some old car pics in there too, I just need to dig them out. These are some relatives of mine in New Mexico, I'm not sure of the year.
My girlfriend is a photographer, and one of her big ongoing projects is to print photos from her great grandfather's negative collection (from 1918). She prints the photos with all of the degradation found in the decaying negatives. They are stunning, engaging, and in a way, eerie. If I was in your shoes, I would suggest leaving the photo as-is. I can photoretouch my way to the Moon, but I don't do it because I like the effect of time on a timeless medium. Something to consider. That's a great photo, made better with time.
Ya I agree I like the look of old worn photos too. He mainly just wanted these enlarged, so I figured I'd clean up the dust and stains at the same time. Maybe I'll just leave it on the one's like this one and just clean up the portrait shots of him. Unfortunately I don't have the negative to work with, I'm just scanning and working in photoshop. Thanks.
Will you make them bigger or send them to me? I cant even tell what brands they are. Its terrible to get old and blind
