Hot Rods Nebraska/Iowa guys! Remember the "In-Bomber"?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Nov 13, 2008.

  1. I know alot of people out west remember this car, and if you don't please ask around. Looking specifically for ANY photos or footage of the car, cash paid! Any stories about the car or racing against it. Ran out of Omaha NE and raced at the Pomona winternationals, '68 Indy nationals, '69 Dallas springnationals, kansas, sioux city etc... Thanks!

Any chance that this is a early version?

  5. fergenboysinc- finally some info on that pic! I came across it in some random Tri-Five gallery but never knew where it came from. Any chance to get a actual copy of it? Or any way to email me a larger scan? Dont think that second pic is it, earlier the car was completely light blue with just the top done in black, later the entire top of the car was painted white. Thanks,

  6. ...bump for the night crew. I'm digging up some more goods on this car and we are rolling along with the resto.

  7. Pictures from our friend's garage this past Sunday 11/23/08. It has since been completely stripped of all trim, gl*** and interior, and its getting ready for body work. BIG list of parts to order today!

  8. That F85 a post car? May be dads before they lettered it for the season?! Doesnt look like ti:(

  9. You should have shown a picture of under the hood of this car. The old decals and stickers of its past were very cool. And well worth do***enting when restoring this car.

  10. For some reason they wont post but I do have pictures of the underside of the hood with all the stickers and even the "ghost" markings of the stickers and lettering on the body. I'm going crazy on do***enting the car. We're actually going to have the center of the hood underside masked off and touch it up later (white) by hand to preserve all the original stickers (the border of the hood, engine compartment, inner fenderwells and complete underside of the car are being soda blasted and painted white.) Some are so hard to find today and I'll actually have to have several re-made for the body.

  11. Bump.... entire car has been soda blasted and metal work begun, driver's side fender is all patched up. We picked out the paint too, matching it as close as we can to the two color photos we have and what little faded light blue was left on the car. Trying to find someone who will re-chrome the wheels, apprarently no one aroudn here does steel wheels!

  12. Did the contact in Omaha I gave you help? He raced '57s for years - and kept track of many others. He is a walking knowledge book on 57 Chevys.

Wow I'm astonished,I made lots of the races at Flightland, Cornhusker and all around the Omaha area and I don't remeber that car. The only 57's I can recall are the Tension and Good Intension cars.
I must have missed that one altogether.

  15. bump- stoggie! I didn't get a chance to call him yet, will try to today, thanks man

Dean- who is doing the work?

  17. Hey man hows it going? A buddy of ours Todd and his brother Mike are doing the body, paint, gl*** and front suspension. Local interior shop is taking care of that, and I'm doing the engine/mechanics. Still need a wheel chromer haha no one will do it...

Sorry, I looked through the rest of the pictures and that was the only one.

  20. Bump... lucked out and found some Champion, Hurst and ultra rare Baldwin Filter stickers on ebay that we needed. Keep the stories and pics coming! spread the word!.....JOECOOL-the Patrick Bros. were friends with Don Stephensen (Tension) and Fred Anderson (Good-In-Tension), they often ran together. Fred even drove the In-Bomber to victory at the '68 Nationals when Don Patrick (driver) and Ken Nelson (co-driver/mechanic) couldn't attend. Ken Patrick was a little too large to take the wheel so he never drove, just made all the arrangements.

  21. Have you talked to Donnie or Fred? Both are still in town...I can get you number if you need them.

Seems like this should be easier for you to get info on...all the players of that era are still around and still doing hot rod/race car stuff.

  22. Hey Stoggie, I called Bill by the way and he did remember the car and the drivers and all. Not much else beyond that, said he never ran against it. I've been able to talk to Don Patrick (surprisingly not much help there, conversation lasted about 2 min) and Ken Nelson, who was the mechanic and co-driver. He on the other hand was a pleasure to talk with and had a great memory and interest in the car. I also talked to Yukio Ando, the engine builder, who just remembered that it was a fuelie motor. I was just thinking though how I would like to talk to Donnie and Fred about it, if you could get me there numbers it would be awesome. Thanks for the help man,

  23. BTTT both doors and front fenders are done (all metal) and hung back on the car. Now on to the floors and rockers. Still looking for any stories no matter how vague and especially ANY photos or footage. Thanks guys,

I've been asking but, so many of the fellas from that era ( and there was not too many ) never had any interest in taking pics and have just no interest in old race cars

Sad but true ..So, I'll just bump it for you :(

Has anyone talked to Rose? @ Charlies speed and machine in blair ne. Thats about the time charlie left raceland. And they started Charlies. They built and competed alot in the mid/late 60s into the seventys. Rose has a good collection of some of that era.

  26. I spoke with someone, can't remember his name now, who used to run Raceland Inc. and now works at Speedway Motors...is that the same guy? He didn't seem to remember the car actually. I was hoping someone might have footage from the '68 and '69 national events, spring and winter included. Ken Nelson, who was a driver, mechanic, and part owner, said he had tons of photos and even trophies, some of which were m***ive being won at some "King of The Hill" event. But all were thrown out and/or burned by a ex-wife :(

We have a nice Lakewood NHRA approved ****tersheild, now looking for a racing Muncie 4spd to replace the weaker Saginaw we had lined up for the car. Rear is going to be the original "P-Case" Chevrolet unit with new 5:13 gears (I have 2 sets of original exploded ring and pinion gears!).

Dean talk to Rose @ Charlies speed and machine in blair ne. Charlie worked at raceland and opened his shop Charlies late 60s/early 70s. Charlie competed tru the 70s and Rose has a lot of info from the late 60-70s. Charlie is now deccesed but Rose still runs Charlies in Blair ne. Cal
