Hot Rods Nebraska/Iowa guys! Remember the "In-Bomber"?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Nov 13, 2008.

  1. carkiller- thanks I just called Rose and they do remember the car, didn't seem to think they had any photos but they are trying to find people who do. I got Fred Anderson's number as well which is great. Thanks,

  2. Between he and Don they seem to hard to get in touch with. Don would prefer not to help. Sorry I could not get anything faster for you.

  3. Oh no problem there stoggie, no big rush. I called Fred Anderson and talked for a bit, he certainly remembered the car. Tried Don Stephenson but his number was out of use apparently. Then I called up Ken Patrick and he seemed to think he had some photos which he said he would send my way!

On a side note, Fred Anderson told me that he recently went to see a '57 Chevy for sale in Nebraska that was supposedly his old "Good-In-Tension" car, but was unable to positively identify the car as such. Apparently it was sporting a 350 and many other modern "street rod" components and bared no resemblance to the car we all know, but interestingly enough it did have a Rochester injection unit that looked like Fred's...

  5. Bump! Still looking for leads and photos!

Update! I'll be getting some pictures together Friday of the progress. All the body work is done and all metal. The floors were SHOT, especially the driver's side. Both rockers inside and out were replaced along with 8 body supports and the entire driver's side floor, some of the p***enger's side. The nose of the car had to be jacked back up into position from sagging while it rested in the Nebraska weeds. It looks amazing though, the car is straight and solid again. Not alot of guys could have put this thing back together the way our buddy Mike did. It's ready for prep and primer. Don's Speed Shop is doing the engine for us, a 1962 283ci with factory Corvette dual quads, trans will be a bullit proof T-10 4spd.

Update! The car is in primer and being blocked right now, getting ready for paint (as it raced in 1969). The front suspension has been completely rebuilt, and the engine compartment has been sprayed white. The entire ch***is is primer white, and I'll spray that with gloss once it gets back to our shop. It's amazing seeing the car come back to life. Engine is going together slowly, and the transmission is all done and sitting in my garage. It's a aluminum Borg Warner Super T10 with a rare Hurst Ram Rod in-line shifter and straight racing linkage. Still debating what kind of gears to run. Look through those old photo albums and ask around! Ken Patrick provided me with the earliest photo of the car known to date, showing it as it won in 1968 sans many decals and stickers, and with different front fender lettering.

Dean, you may want to post these pictures and need for info up on http://cl***racer.com/cl***forum/index.php

I'm from Iowa, but I was not at any track's in '68-'69. There are allot of Stock / Super Stock guys on Cl*** Racer that have been doing it forever. My father-in-law was racing a Altered back then around Kansas/Nebraska/Oklahoma. I'll call him and ask if he or any of the other guys that he still runs around with that raced back then remember anything.

  8. AHotRod- Thanks! I'll post it on that forum and see what comes up. If you know anyone who raced then, I'm looking for anything pertaining to the car. Photos and footage in particular. It ran mostly in 1968/1969 at Sioux City, Thunder Valley, Pomona, Indy, Cornhusker, Dallas, Miniapolis, Denver, Raceland/Charlie's Speedway etc...

  9. The fellow you spoke to at Speedway is Clark Wilcox. He ran the Lincoln Raceland store for 20+ years before it closed and he went to work for Speedy Bill. I'm thinking the '57 was probably sponsored out of the main store in Omaha.

  10. Raceland in Lincoln didnt open untill about 1972-73. Clark is the man about anything around Lincoln area. I wish I could go through the bargain room again!

  12. bump! The car is being painted this week! We picked up a Offy 2x4 medium riser intake manifold (find one of those!) and found a nos pair of Mondello Posi-Flow cylinder heads from 1968. Not exactly Jr. Stock correct maybe but it is period and will look correct when all is said and done.
