Hi all, I just purchased an all steel '31 Chevy 2dr Street Rod and in looking for information came across H.A.M.B. Been into cars (Chevys) & motorcycles (HD) forever. Have done a lot of my own fabrication, built & drag raced three different cars, etc. Also spent tens of thousands along the way that I'll never get back...but, that's all part of the passion of being a hot-rodder, right? Anyway, glad to be here and hope to gain some knowledge and maybe share some things too. Tweaked31
Tweaked31 Whats going on down in the Lincoln area? I'm in Valley Ne. I'v got a 30 chevy that I hotroded. It like to see some pic's of yours.
Used to raise all kinds of hell in Lincoln (and Omaha...and Fremont...and Blair...and Valley...and Grand Island...and ...ah never mind...) way back in the '60's...that was probably before you were born tho (I'm****uming here)...and today write stories about those "glory" days... Might want to check out "The Friday Nite Cereal...uhmmm, Serial"...on Friday nites...that'd be tonite...for another story set in the Midwest, mentioning your area... Anyway, welcome to another Midwesterner... R-
Hey Sticks, Nice ride, man. I like it! The '30 has a little more in the style lines than the '31. So, what have you got tucked away in there between the rails? I'll hunt up some pics of my '31 and post them here in a little bit. I need to fish through them & pick out some of the lower resolution ones to post. The hi-res stuff takes up way too much space. So, you going to be able to make it down to Lincoln July 28-30 for the Rod & Custom Americruise? Should be a good time. If you are planning on coming down, let me know and we can meet somewhere for a brew and swap stories. Later...
Hi Cruzr! How's it going in Cal? It's one of my favorite states. Where you located? Also, what you driving? I didn't check your bio. Like I told Sticks earlier, I'll post some pics of my '31 here in a little bit. Catch you later...
Hey 40StudeDude- I've been around here for a while. Weird thing is, I REMEMBER most of the 60'...maybe I didn't do things the same as most other people my age. Maybe that's why they all stayed away from me back then. Hey, I did read through some of the Friday Nite Cereal just the other night. Wow, that's good stuff! What's really cool is that I know some of those places that you were writing about and had heard of some of the others. Remember the now defunct Cornhusker Raceway (drag strip)? I spent some weekends there. Stories, stories, stories. My wife got the worst sunburn in her life there at the 1973 Regionals. (now they call them Divisions) We used to race NHRA Division 5 tracks for several years till it got so expensive that it finally dawned on me that I didn't have a $100k annual budget to be able to stay competitive in the modified classes. Had more fun doing bracket stuff at smaller tracks...like at Little Apple in Manhatten, Kansas. Always had a blast down there. I don't know if they are still open or not. Anyway, thanks for the welcome and I'll have to check out the next installment of the cereal saga(s). Great job! Later....
Let's try this as a test and see how it works...pics of my '31: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=1/2101240396.jpg&s=x4 http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=1/2101245535.jpg&s=x4 http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=1/2101262896.jpg&s=x4 Image support made possible by: http://www.putfile.com
Ok, that didn't work...(insert scratching head sounds here)???? Let's do this: I'll have to do some resizing of the current pics...all are very large. Results of a using a brand new digital camera in hi-res and total operator error. Anyway, its a 1931 Chevy Coach running a basic 350/350 combo, tilt, cruise, brakes, heat & air, pwr. steering, shaved hinges/handles, aux. gas tank, rack & pinion, coil-overs all 4 corners, glass fenders. There are some things yet to be finished/upgraded.
Ya know what? If all hot rods or street rods had that kind of attitude, this board wouldnt only be for traditional rods. Welcome to the H.A.M.B.!
Nice looking Chebby Tweaks...is that a Mopar grille I see on the front? Hmmmmmmm, you saying you were a "Nerd" back then? One of those kids that everyone else shunned, said was a loner? Yep, went there a few times...'course, my old '57 wasn't "strip-worthy" and got my**** whipped a few times...nuff of that...on the street was easier and I could make money. My book (listed below) is full of those wild days and nites in Omaha, Lincoln, Fremont and points in between...and book number two, entitled "Fast cars, 4-speeds and fist-fights" is due out in July or so...24 more episodes of "high speed Lunacy!" So, bring that Chebby on down to the the HAMB drags in Joplin, MO in August...I'll bring my old Studey and we'll see who's quiker or faster...(that's a challenge for ya!)....see ya... R-
This Rocky from Omaha welcoming you.....Lincoln is a great town for hotrods and if you need parts, just slide over to Sunshine drive and see Speedy Bill! I gotta lincoln buddy with a 31 chevy. I'm sure by now you've met Stu Kirkbride and seen his 31 deep maroon chevy coupe.....callled "Tuffy" on the decklid and runs a blown smallblock in it....chopped about 5 " When the weather gets warmer, bring your chevy over to the Wednesday nite cruise in Omaha....just north of I-80 off 84th street..
Tweaked31 Hey, thanks for the pic's I dig, it's very cool, is that a wood grained belt line and flames?. I'm planing on going to the Lincoln Rod & Custom Americruise show. As it gets closer I'll shot you a PM so we can meet that would be cool. I've got mine setup with a 350 stock more or less with a 4 speed muncie M20 and a Ford 9in. My Son and I did all the work From rebuilting the wood for the body to Fabin up all the mounts and reinforcements to the frame, the paint work. Dose any one know when the swap meet is go to be held in Fremont Ne? Thanks
00 MACK, Thanks for the welcome. I took a peek at your profile...occupation: pinstriper. That's a talent that I'll never possess. I tried doing it a couple times and now leave that to the people that know what they're doing. I have high respect for those folks that can. Do you have a web site to show some of your work? Also, saw that you have a 49 Merc. I have a friend that has one...its far from complete...probably 15 years worth of in-progress work and I don't think its moved yet under it's own power. He did a nice chop on it though. Later....
40StudeDude - Hey ya sort of have me on yer loner pick. I was the kid who's mothers wouldn't let their daughters go out with. Too many fast cars, motorcycles, played bass in a hard rock band (covers: Hendrix, Steppenwolf, Cream), and had the long hair to boot. ie: one of the punks in other words. Hey, the "hoods/punks" were always the fun bunch anyway...not like the preppy sports jocks. Wish I could have some of that back....hair included. Joplin in August? Can't plan that far ahead with my business. When we go somewhere it's usually on short notice. Yup, I'd have a shot at the tree with ya...win/lose it's always fun! Later....I gotta go check on the latest "cereal".
Hi Rocky, I know some of the "boys'" over at Speedy Bills. Wayne Lewis does the HI-Perf machine work for them over there. he used to have his own shop years back (Lewis Automotive) and did all of the machine work on my racing engines. Man, I would like to know how many record setting engines he has built over the years for people. A lot of them went to out of state customers too. I know Stewie Kirkbride. I haven't seen/spoken to him in many years though. When he did the coupe (the first time) he put it in the Autorama car show in Lincoln (I think it was 1981) and I had my 69 Camaro B/SuperMod drag car in there just a couple cars away from him. That's where I first ran into him. He just got the car painted at (get this) MAACO and it was an awesome looking job. I know he's made some significant changes over the years since. Anyway, being first-timers, neither he nor I knew a thing about car shows so, we sort of figured it out together. What's over there North of I-80 & 84th? I had not heard of this before....I usually am living under a pile of rocks, I guess. We'll have to make it a point to come up there. Take it easy...
Hi Sticks, Yup, its a woodgrain tape trim overlayed with a shade darker than the body paint tape trim. It's sort of a tribal tattoo scallop/mild flame look...I guess. The pictures make it look a little different than when you see it in person. Yeah, do keep in touch for the Am'cruise! Also, I found out the Fremont Swap Meet is on June 24 & 25 this year. http://www.swapfremont.com/ Here's a link that is dedicated to 1931 Chevys but, you might find some helpfull info in there for your 1930. It's mainly for the original restoration car crowd, but interesting info regardless. The guy that put it together is super nice and knowledgeable about that era. Drop him an email if you have any questions on the '30...I'm sure he will be able to provide an answer. http://1931chevrolet.com Take it easy Sticks!
Wow, there are still people in Nebraska? I thought I told the other guy to turn off the lights when he left before I moved to Texas. Those cars are very cool. The 30 and 31 Chevies are totally groovy! If I ever get my Apache fixed up enough I might drive her back up to Omaha and see what the place looks like after all these years. Take care, and welcome.
Hey Lucky Strike, Thanks for the kudos/welcome. We lived in Petrolia, Texas back when I was just a little guy. Then after a couple years my parents decided to move back. They said something about the lights being left on back here. I still have a bunch of cousins living in the town's of West & Waco. Make it to TX about every 2-3 years or so. Great state! What city you in? Load up the Apache and come back up here fer a spell. The weather here will do you some good...or maim you depending upon which day of the year you arrive. Being a former Nebraskan, you should know that. Later....
Nice Ride tweak. I too am doing a 31 but its a sport coupe. I can tell you this, if you've come here for information you will be thoroughly impressed. Ask a lot of questions and heed all their advice, these guys know their stuff!
Hi Johnny T. Good luck with your '31! Post some pics when you get underway. Hey, I checked out your profile & chopper site....nice! I still have my '47 Knucklehead that I bought when I was 18. Immediately chopped it after I bought it. Sometimes I really regret that decision...especially when I see the value of these things in original condition....oh well, its done. It's in storage now waiting for ressurection. I also have a 2003 Screamin Eagle Road King that we do ride. I put a tourpak & some other creature comforts on it for the long-hauls for my wife & myself. The older you get the more you appreciate that stuff...hardtails are for the young studs that ain't got many miles on their behinds/backbones yet. Anyway, catch you later....ride safe.
Welcome to the board. Lived in Lincoln until '86 when I moved out here. Like you, know couple people at Speedy's (unless they retired- Clark W.) Was a starting member of the LASR way back when. Used to street race a '65 Dodge Corenet with a 426 Hemi. Had it in couple of the show's early 80's, Drove a 29AA during the time. Primer then in 79 two tone blue-couple years latter vette bright yellow. Glenn O. is a good friend, still has hair down to his*****. Which makes it long as he is 6'5". ladder, Earl

Hi Earl, I think that I know you from back in the day...I've been pondering this for a while. What rod did you have back in the early LASR days? I checked your profile... 1923 dirt style w/153' chevyII motor...that's gotta be a killer combo....those are great motors. Most people have never heard of them or don't believe they ever existed in the first place. Clark W. is still at Speedway as far as I know. I spent a lot of time & money back at Raceland. Just doesn't seem right not to see that place on the corner anymore. He's a great guy...always got a smile. I'm going over there in the next few days...I'll take an inventory and see who's still out there. That place just keeps growing & growing. Have you been to/through the museum? If you haven't...try to make it over to see it.
