Having a hard time making contact with someone who can rebuild/swap 4 Stomberg 97s. Left a message with Josh (97Heaven) and Northwest Speed Equipment. No luck on return calls. Anyone have someone else they would recommend? I'm looking for linkage as well. Don't want this to hold my project up! Thanks~ --Mark
Mark - I've been doing this since mid 60's. Lately been using the New Stromberg 97 parts. Each one built to order like it was for myself. Yours or mine. Pics available. madmax1946@comcast.net
Mark you won't be disappointed in Uncle Maxs work. I got 3 97's from him back at the end of December and I am real happy with them. If I could attach a picture I would show them to you. Where I had 2 94's on now I have the 3x2 and my flathead has never ran stronger. He does a reallly nice job bringing those old carbs back to life. He's an honest man that'll do what he says he'll do. Can't ask for more than that. good luck Stafford
Jacks Specialty Parts Portland OR 503-667-1725 Has rebuild everything got flats And a cool old guy too
try jere jobe.. http://www.vintagecarburetiontech.com/pages/709477/index.htm he done my carbs, never had a problem with them over the last three years.
Supply him with good cores. Good workmanship and service but he provided my cores and one of them is decidedly suspect. "Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear". An old metal polisher told me that once. Took me ages to work out what he was talking about. Pete
Do them yourself. I never rebuilt a carb before and I was able to do it no problem. I got master rebuild kits off ebay for $25.00 each for three shipped including new screws. I sent my bodies out and had them refinished and checked for warpedness (is that a word?) through Joe Smith Auto. Glass beaded and painted the bases myself. There are many posts on here about taking them apart. And alot of places to get replacement parts. Take your bases and throttle shafts to your local machine shop and have them measured if you think they are loose. After that the only adjustment is the float level, and you get that guage with the kits. Jere Jobe (vintage carb tech) is the only person I know that runs the carbs before he sends them out using the original style float level guage (site glass). The hardest part is getting them COMPLETELY apart (I did nine at one sitting..yuk)
Matt Werksmen just finished rebuilding my 48's and are working the best they ever have. He's on the H.A.M.B.
Thanks John!!! Glad they are working good for you. PM me, I can help you with anything you need.... Matt
I'll second Jere Jobe,,, He's done a bunch of carbs for us to use on the Great Race with no real problems. Been using him for the last trhree years on various Great race cars.
