Technical Need a dash for my 27 Model T Touring street rod

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Michael Dyren, Aug 21, 2022.

  1. Hello fellow rodders
does anyone know if a 28 model A dash or perhaps a 32 ford dash can fit or relatively easily be made to fit my original steel 26 touring's cowl?

Thanks in advance for any help you may offer

    appreciatively, michael

The Model A dashboard is part of the gas tank so it won’t be a easy fit.

Your 26 touring cowl is rather narrow. As said above the Model A dash is integral to the gas tank, but if you cut it out it might be a close width. Any later dashes will be even wider.

I have one project 26 that I used a 20's Dodge dashboard in, and I think I had to narrow it a bit. Course the whole body was narrowed six inches, so that makes things a bit different than your situation. Also, it needed a stepped flange all the way around the outer edge, as the T cowl has a bit of setback for the mounting surface. A flat panel will leave a gap up where the screws go through.

I have another project, a 26 touring that is stock width, that I just narrowed a 30 Olds dash for. IIRC it was about two inches. I cut most of the closed car outer beads off, then traced the needed step and ran the remaining flange through my bead roller. I put about a quarter inch joggle in the edge and it fits like a glove now. Currently filling the Olds gauges holes so I can drill my own for some vintage Stewart Warners.

Speedway sells T dashboards made by Union Pacific. They even have a 32 dash that is steel.

Why not put a Model T dash in if yours is butchered or missing?

They aren't stamped with dies, they are formed by wheels and rails.

Do you have a T dash now? It would help to put a town in your profile.

  9. I've used the '32 steel dashes made by several places for use in A's. They are easy to narrow for a 26/27 T. 26TRP1.jpg XP8160181_JPG.jpg

Since it might not be going into a '32 and most likely will need to be modified, it probably doesn't really matter that it is not "Henry perfect". Very few people would know it was a Deuce dash, let alone know it was a repro.
