Hey guys and gals, first off a big Merry Xmas for every one, drink and eat lots!!! ok now iv got that out of the way, i need some advice on a really cool steering wheel for my 54 Desoto custom sled, i have nemaed her now also, Jaded Angel is her name, she will be painted with a 3 tone green fade away paint job (Gene Winfeild 50 styled). and iv found a name for my sled now that im happy with, she is called Jaded Angel i have decided to customise my dash rather heavily, with advice from some good friends, but my stock 54 sterring wheel is so boring, i want something really wild, and i dont want to buy any thing of the shelf, I was keen to make a custom steering wheel from green acrylic, i had a design and every thing in mind, but im not sure if that is legal and safe??? the dash knobs will be custom made tear drop style knobs from green acrylic and the dash will be white, there will be green fade away painted in the curves etc and then dash will be pin stripped in silver and gold pearls, so you cant really see the striping only on different angles in the light, all the old chrome on the dash will be stripped and replaced with stainless , there is a special section on my dash reserved for my Hero Gene Winfeild, he is the whole reason behind my love for customs and building this sled, he is coming to NZ and will visit my sled and sign my dash, so pretty elaborate and would love a elaborate steering wheel to match, any one have a good idea on what i should be looking for? i was thinking 60 plymouth or something...
Not sure if the Plymouth is the same but the early 60s Chryslers have those square wheels with a rather busy horn centers - I see them on Ebay from time to time. I have a '60 Fury wheel but wouldn't call it elaborate or very unique. Its fairly sleek and modern compared to most 1960 steering wheels.
