Hot Rods Need a little help, might take the dive into a '34 3 window...what should i look to spend

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fur biscuit, Nov 21, 2016.

  1. Evening,

Opportunity popped on a 3 window '34 Ford. Norcal car, disassembled god knows how many years ago, body stripped and in primer. Has a "drive train"...flatty is probably a boat anchor (not a matching numbers car). Complete body, fenders, etc. Has 2 complete dashes but no interior. No rust or patch panels according to owner.

    Thoughts?

  3. Norcal car (I am in Texas), will get some pictures up. Yeah, have a friend who can look at the car.

lots of money for the car and plenty more if you don't have the tools and equipment.

  5. So like a stack of crispies, a line of puro and a happy ending?

Sure looks like a great car but any missing original parts are outrageous. If you go for it, you have a very nice start and good luck.

  7. Yeah...H.A.M.B...hot rod...

Let's try this another way: let's say I spend 33k, should I feel like a tool? 15k do I go home and touch myself in naughty places? 25k I got a deal?

This was 90% complete, had all the sheet metal, no patch panels, original chrome redone, etc, for less than 30K. It's now my avatar. But then again, I was lucky.

  14. "Numbers Matching", not important as long as the title matches the number on the frame. Figure out what you want to end up with in 5 years when you finish it, figure out in detail what it would cost to make that pile of parts into the car you want, and then price cars in that condition and compare. I look forward to hearing in detail what you want to do with the car and what you think it would cost. Best of luck it could be a fun project (or a financial disaster).

if he really wants to sell it, why doesn't he move the body, etc out where it can be properly examined?

Bought my coupe body in 2003 for $15k. Just the body with garnish mouldings and dash -- it is a nice body however.

  17. Yes, to answer your thought.
On the market, I'd be surprised if it didn't bring at least 23+

If it has all the moldings and an original floor 25-30 if you bolted it back together.

Looks like a good car from the pics. If you can get it and the stuff with it for 20 or less, you'll do well. I don't think you'll have a financial disaster. I'd pay 20 for it

Bought a '34 5-window body with no rust. Came with the original frame and a few other odds and ends for $50. Sold it 6 months later for $200 and I delivered it to the guys house! I was thrilled to quadruple my money!
    But.................that was in 1971.
