hey guys, I'm in the UK and not sure of your legal status regarding the supply of a ***le.
The story: I bid, won and paid for a car from US egay. The car was in Nebraska and was bought with a good Nebraska ***le. So I get the car picked up and asked the guy to give the ***le to the transport guys which he never did saying it's not a good idea and he'll post it on. Fair enough, but alas no ***le has been sent and although I've emailed several times I just get excusses. Now the car is at a friends place in CA and I can't ship it without a ***le.
So, the question: Has the guy broken any laws by selling a car and not providing the ***le?
Remembering I'm in the UK and not able to go knocking on his door, what options do I have if he never comes up with the ***le?

    Thanks Nutrocker

    thanks rixrex,
I have not seen the ***le and although I know the details of the seller I don't know if the ***le is in his name, I think he has got the car just to sell on for some $$$.
In the UK the short term owner/dealer does not have to change ***le to his own name. Not sure if it's like that in US.
This all sounds like I'm a dumb ***, and prob I am, but I did ask all the right questions except getting to see the ***le. ******!!

I think this might be a good plan for you...international***leservice.com download and print their do***ents. you know what kind of car it is, just dream up a VIN number..you will send them 120.00US..you will get Alabama paperwork with your description and VIN number..the only gray area might be your out-of-country ***le transfer rules? look into that..if it flies you will have paperwork to show..this has worked for me, of course I was doing out-of-state ***le transfers..

Hi why not email him telling him if he does not send you the ***le you will send the Ca State Police to his house to pick it up ...along with HIM...If you go with getting a new ***le I woud make sure to use the correct vin numbers!...Miller

If he doesn't produce a ***le, I'd get with ebay first. I wouldn't call the cops as they'll impound the car. If the auction said he had a ***le, he'd better have a ***le. When I buy a car on the auction site, I have the seller fax me a copy of the ***le before paying him or her.

In 2002 I bought a motorcycle on EBay that was in VT...VT doesn't issue ***les on cars/bikes older than 15 years old...but they do register them, and that proof of owership is transferable, which I did when I brought it back to my home state of Michigan. BTW, it's now illegal to sell a car or bike in MI without a ***le...
I would get with the CA DMV and ask them what's required. If there's no ***le, the seller may be in big trouble.

get on google enter the name of the town dude lives in then contact city hall, this works great if town is real small because they usually know everyone! anyway speak to the detective in charge and tell him your problem as they may be willing to make the "tune up" call and get your problem resolved. if that doesnt work BASH THE DUDE on ebay! good luck

thanks guys, he's given me his word (huh?) that he'll post the ***le this week, so gonna give him one more chance. If he fails this time I will post his name and address, also going to email the DMV in his town or the nearest and see what **** they can drop on him, and anybody else who has some power.
Just need to be sure that he has broken the law in some way before I start on him.
I now know I can get another ***le if I have to and thats the most important thing for me, although it will cost, so now it'll be just a fun game to see how much **** I can drop on him just to while away the winter months till I get the car to work on.

    thanks for your help.......................Nutrocker

OK, so now another week has p***ed and still no ***le, no suprise there then!
The guy lives in Kearney Nebraska. Will the HAMB let me give out his name?? I'm a FNG and don't want to up set anything.

So now I need to move the car so time has come to try to get another ***le. I tried the site mentioned above but it seems to be for real estate and I can't find the car ***le bit ( not too hot on the 'puter) so does anyone have another link.

I don't get why the guy won't let me have the ***le.

    Thanks Nutrocker

this is the one I use , not the fastest but they come thru.I think you should post the name ,if for no other reason than someone may then know not to do business with them again.

Surely, there are some cornbread fed Nebraskans on the HAMB. Send a bubba over there as your point of contact. Tell him that your friend will be at his house to pick up the ***le.

Think we got sorted, he has posted something to me and given me a tracking number, won't know for sure till I open it though, so still not convinced.
I have done a couple of things that might have been the kick in the *** he needed and I've just had an email from the Ne state police auto fraud saying they will ***ist me to get the ***le from him. So a knock on the door from them would have made his day, kinda wish he hadn't sent it now. LOL
For those who think I should name him, I'll give out his ebay name only. Fordomatic. so beware. He sells toys mostly, but has sold a couple of cars and there's a pic of a rod in the back of the pics on the listing.
Thanks to those who have given advice here and hopefully it has now been sorted.
BTW, the car was a barn find '30 A sedan, complete with last used 1960 plates. I paid good money for it ($2800) as I wanted a complete car with a ***le for export to UK, It has some damage to the cowl but nothing I can't sort (I'm a sheet metal worker/welder). Hopefully I can make two cars from it, use the body and grill shell with a box ch***is, drop I beam and tri chevy rear, Olds 425 cid super rocket motor and low, very low. Then I can use the Achssis and running gear with a simple body to build a 30/40's style modified. Thats the plan anyway.
You'll be able to follow build-up pics at my site www.chopsnbobbers.com but not for at least 6 months though, and of cause I'll post on here too.
    Thanks again Nutrocker
