I have need of a source for the single female connector with two terminals that mates with the two prong brake switch from GM from the 60's through the 70's. I just need the plastic housing (shell) that retains the two female terminals. This appears to be a Packard 56 connector. Any sources for this? Just spent the afternoon at our friendly Napa shop. I'm going to need several of these, they match my VDO gauge terminals installed in my Studebaker.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->
Sadly, no. Most wrecking yards tailor to the late-model repair business, so anything earlier than about '95 is crushed rather fast. Walk-ins are NOT their business model. Cosmo
Cosmo is right. I'm going to need about 10 of these connectors, they appear to match the VDO lamp sockets, the one on the left.
Thanks for the link, Roughneck424. I was there earlier, it appears to have only the single terminal housings, I'm looking for a dual terminal housing, like on the connector for the GM brake switch I mentioned. That is the correct style and type of terminal though.
I believe i would use non-vynl disconnects with shrinktube over them, then slide a rubber hose up to the lamp socket and shrinkwrap that in place with the shrinkwrap going over the shoulder of the socket. Cover that with electrical tape or better tarred loom material. The problem is what you have is a connector, an aftermarket pigtail will connect to it but it is a connector as well and connected by butt connectors - see what i mean, lots of failure points. I get the individual lamp socket pieces from american autowire and assemble them right on the harness, just like the factory - no splice and totally weathertite. OEM type of connection.
ACDelco may offer a repair connector with leads for this switch. http://www.acdelcotechconnect.com/pi/wiring-connectors/ Here's a list of 2 terminal connectors with photos. http://www.acdelcotechconnect.com/pi/wiring-connectors/gm/pigtails/2-cavity/ If nothing looks right here, you might still want to head to a GM Parts dept. and see if you can find somebody who knows their way around the catalogs. They'll have to look up the OEM# for the switch and then get into the "charts" section of the catalog. Then they'll have to open the "Packard Connector Chart", look for your switch number, and see if it lists the repair connector for this switch. Not every connector is listed, but most of them are. If I was still at work I'd check it for you myself. If you still need any help, PM me Monday and I'll take a look.
No problem! That Packard Connector Chart has been a lifesaver (and timesaver) for me over the years. Don't forget that you can click on the pics on the ACDelco site to get a larger view. If GM can't supply them for you, an ACDelco jobber may still be able to with the "PT****" number.
