Looking for any recommendations for an engine rebuilder. Need to have my 292 y-block freshened up a bit. I am located in Mokena,IL about a half hour southwest of Chicago. Looking for someone local.

    Thanks Josh

  2. Might check with Opel Engineering in Streamwood...I realize it's not "local" by Chicago standards, but they are very familiar with older engines. There may well be someone closer to you...most of the Chicago names I know are racing-oriented.

Any competent machine shop can handle it. A y-block is no different than any other motor, all the same rules apply.

But my vote goes for Markham Machine in Markham,IL...I grew up across the street from the guy that runs the machine shop there.
