I inherited this truck from my dad and I am determined to fix it up right. I'm going for more of a rat/sleeper style with nothing fancy on the exterior. Problem is, I am new to the automotive field and I can use all the technical help I can get. 1.) I'd like to replace the front brakes from drum to disk and I would like to drop it a little at the same time. I found a "Grand Slam" kit (6 lug) that would do the trick but they say it may not work with stock drum wheels and I don't know if it's going to be worth my while. http://www.cl***icperform.com/Store/1960_1972_Chevy_Truck/6772GSK-5D.htm 2.) I've got a 1983 Chevy small block 350, 700r4, new rear gas tank, new gas lines, new gas filter, new fuel pump, new oil filter, new thermostat, distributor, starter, pcv valve, breather, new water pump (long), new 120 amp alternator, new spark plugs & wires, new motor mounts, and I plan on using the stock drive line and fabricating a cross member for the transmission. I'm about to order a new Radiator, holly carb (w/700r4 cable slot), triple gauge kit (oil/water/volt), ****** cooling lines, and I'll create the radiator hoses when they arrive. If there is anything I am missing or anything you could suggest me geting for this build I would greatly appreciate it. I'm super handy and can build almost anything, but vehicles are somewhat new to me. I'm a little lost so anything helps. I will do my best to respond to questions/comments when I can. I work full time+ and I'm expecting in about a week so please have patience. Thank you, and cheers.
Hi. Likely the reason for no response is you mention rat style. We do not do rat rods or discuss them here. That truck is a great start of something good though. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/ Jimmie
