so i have an opportunity to purchase a real deal convertible deluxe that has been owned by the same owner since the 1950's. the car is local (sorta) and i have seen it in person. while it is in pieces, they are all there and in very solid shape. the body even looks to have some original paint! i would be getting the complete car fenders, doors, hood, grill, windshield, body, bench, frame, flat 4, banjo rear, everything and possibly a few other parts to go along with the "project".

i currently have a flathead 8 from my 50 shoebox with overdrive 3 speed trans that seem to be rebuilt. i have been looking loosely for something to put it in.

the million dollar question, whats it worth??? i would like to strike a deal soon if its within reason, here are some pics to help.

Roadster? $3-5K as parts or as much as you're willing to pay...

  4. Nice old convertable Ford. Proberbly worth more than a plain old roadster......
Id pay $5 grand with the gun thrown in.
I dont think the plastic gas tank is original, but ol Henry was ahead of his time, so it could be...

  5. if the the body is nice and complete car 5-7 grand
heck a brookville is 6500 just for the body with no tank

does the driveshaft on the wall come with it? just to be clear, that is a roadster body, there was another model called the cabriolet which is sometimes called a convertible or convertible cabriolet and it had roll up side windows.

  9. i think that is a fair price
offer him 6 with ben franklins in hand
like i said before a brookville is 6500 and you dont even get a gas tank
if it has a****le(which i bet it does) scoop it up and just reassemble it and get $10,000
    tk

  10. If it has roll up door glass it would be a cabriolet, I have never seen a model A cabriolet that I recall. If it doesn't have roll up glass it is a roadster.

If it truley an original Model A Ford convertable it is the rarest car in existance.

    Oh what was the question?

I'm a cheap******** so I probably wouldn't give anywhere near what the rest of the fellas are willing to give. Ask him his bottom dollar, if you have that much and it doesn't make you***** pucker to give it to him for the car that is what it is worth.

Looks like a 1930 Deluxe Roadster to me, give the owner the $6,500 or someone else will.

    Nice roadster.

It's worth the $6500, no doubt.

But, I'd still offer $5000 and see where it went.

If you want a real Henry roadster??? you should prolly buy it.... If the owner puts an ad up it'll be gone by the end of the week... Sell off all the extra parts for a couple grand and you'll only have 4500 in the body and parts you need... And if it's got a****le??? consider that a bonus... Any old roached out roadster shell with 3 inches missing off the bottom will get that...

How tall are you? Heavy? I'm 6'1" and don't have a gut. I just got into a friend's restored '31 (convertible, sorry if it's not the right term) today and sat down. What a miserable POS to try to wedge yourself into and extricate from! As far as investment value, well that's one thing. As far as a driving machine goes, not a chance in hell for me! It made me think my '45 GMC is practically a limousine compared to that.

Own a '31. That is a fair price for all the gear included. If you plan to put the flatty in it, box the frame, or better, go to 4 X 2" steel tube.

Make a decent offer, like $5500, if he counters at $6000 buy it, if he doesn't, buy it anyway, or you will kicking yourself someday, guarenteed!

With all the parts you mentioned and a clear****le it should easily be worth 6000/6500. As Chop Top Kid said, every part you don't plan to use in the redo you have planned can be sold to put money back in the kitty. That is the great thing about Model A's, someone is hunting for every part you don't plan on using if it is usable. As for myself I think a full fendered 31 A roadster with a flathead V8 in it would be a great little rod that a guy could really enjoy. Or build it as a Hiboy and the fenders put a decent stack of cash back in the kitty to work on it with.

That's an early production 1930 Ford Roadster. If he has all of the parts, it's worth 6500 all day long.

Right, you have to build these cars so you fit in them. I'm 6'0" and here is a pic of the last '30 roadster I built, it was real comfortable to drive:

Grab it, at that price this time next year you'll be bragging about how cheap you got it for. That is a very nice piece of tin and with a****le, you are a lucky guy.

Kris is right.. if that guage panel fits(oval speedometer)..and the cowl band has bumps instead of a continuous ridge on the gas tank (worth bucks if good) and since it doesen't have an indented firewall it is probably early production 1930...roadster

also... if he has the fenders..they are slightly different and also collectible...might want to check on Ford Barn for this as I don't have any pictures..

  25. For what it is, it's a good deal, if it was all together it would bring $4000 more no sweat.

X2 on that statement. 6500 is a fair price for the body alone, these days. But you are getting more!

Why is it so glossy? Looks like a varnish over rust, especially that quarter panel.

Here's my advice: don't buy it. The guy will be heartbroken, so you should post his address and phone number here so that other HAMBers can go over and console him. :)

I have been in the market for a 30/31 roadster for years and I can tell you the prices have risen sharply over the last few years. Right now 6500.00 is a deal for a solid complete car even apart, and its better than money in the bank! Buy it and if you decide to sell later you will make money!

excellent, thank you everyone for the advice. i have made my offer and plan to go up on Sunday to buy it.

they told me the car was a 29, but it looks more like a 30, so it makes sense that some of you notice its a early 30. and yes its a roadster not convertible (sorry for wrong term).

I'm 6'10" and will have no more problem squeezing into and out of my roadster than I do the average Honda or my wife's Subaru... if it gets real bad, I'll just have to step over the door!
Buy it. That is a GREAT start... I've got a LOT of patching to do to even get to that point. Snag it while you can.
