Need advice on shackle bushing install

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Irish Mike, Mar 8, 2009.

  1. New bushing/bolts. Wishbone shackle bore I.D. is .010-.012 smaller than bushing O.D. Tried pressing one in, got 1/2 way and bushing mushroomed. I don't think heat on the wishbone bore will work, the bushing inside is rubber. All advice appreciated. Thanks.

  2. Get a can of spray on silicone lubricant and lube it up real good. The bushings are supposed to fit tight, but they will mushroom if you try and install them dry.

would you have metric bolt by chance? 13 mm is about 12 thou over 1/2"

    just a thought.

  4. It's not a bolt. It's a stud inside rubber inside a sleeve, made for replacing the old cloth type bushing. I'll try the silicone. Thanks.

Haven't tried it on shackle bushings yet but I've had good luck using Armor All for similar situations, both removal and installation.

  6. put it in the freezer and it will shrink.

The freezer idea helps. Stick them in overnight so they get as cold as possible.
