I am putting together a 1953 Chevrolet 5 window one ton pickup, and wondering if anyone can point me to a wiring diagram for this truck? The wiring at the back has been chopped up over the years and I am trying to figure out how the original taillights were wired. I have just painted the truck and I am trying to get it back on the road with original taillights, and I am basically looking to put the wiring back to factory pattern for now. The turnsignal is a chrome plated item clamped onto the steering column. It is a short switch lever and has two green indicator lights to tell you if a bulb is burned out front or rear. I am not sure if its original or aftermarket. The switch feeds a three contact flasher, but the third contact wire has been cut. Power is now fed to the switch and then two wires run from the switch to the flasher. The taillight bulbs have two bulbs to cover stop, turn and running lights. The wires running to the taillights have been cut behind the cab. I am trying to understand how these were originally wires so that I can start tracing the wires and putting them back the way they were. If anyone can point me to a wiring diagram it would save me a lot of time and trouble. The truck is rust free and low mileage, and I have straightened out all the dents with hammer and dolly, and shot some paint onto it. Just fired it up and she runs fine!

The factory repair manual has wiring diagrams, reprints are available,do a Goggle search.
You truck had no turn signals when new. They were added most likely by a previous owner. Two are two common types,a 4 wire using separate rear signals or a 7-8 wire using the brake lights. The tail lights had two wires, one for the running lights coming from the light switch. And a stop light wire from the brake light switch on the firewall.
