I just want another opinon on something that happened to me.I work for a metal fab company in MD and we have been going to the same s**** yard for years.I have gotten to pretty good freind with owner and his son-in-law.Hell I have even been to there house to hang out.Well I was there on wendsday and was waiting to unload and there was another guy there unloading.The other guy had all these old mag rims from when he used to drag race in 70's.He had 2 big alum slots off of a rail he used to run and a bunch more.I just said in p***ing he might be able to to get more fot them buy selling them then just s****ing them.Well he said they were mostly 14 and did not think anyone would have a use for them.He did however have to old 15 inch mags that were 30 years old and still it the box so he kept them.Well when I pulled to get unloaded the s**** guys son inlaw went off on me.He said he was there to make money and did not ****in appricate me telling this guy what he had.Then he blew up and called me a ****ing ******* then told me to take all my scap somewhere else.I did some yelling back which did not help but I was going to let him the stainless and alum anyway like i said we have gone there for years.Then he said one more thing and I said **** it and left.Now I know mabye I should have kept my mouth shut about the rims but he stll s****ed most of them just kept the 2.I just did not want to see those nice old rims be wasted plus the guy said he need money and figured he would get more selling them.There it is a little long.Was I a **** or was I not so bad?
screw the greedy *******, it was an honest mistake on your part at worst. it just proves that you have to be careful about who you choose to hang with.
In retrospect, perhaps it may have been a bit wiser to have your conversation in private, with the gentleman with the wheels....
I would have shoved that rim down his Fu**ing mouth and pulled it out his ***hole ! I would have done the same thing and even gave the guy my phone number . If that little fu**ing ***hole doesn't like it , then he can go to hell ! If he doesn't want your business either then fu*k him too . Hey , it's a dog eat dog world and **** happens . There are other places to sell s**** ! You should have told the owner that he was giving you a rash of **** and now he doesn't want your business ! I'll bet his *** would have been kicked from here to hell and back from the owner . Don't let it get to you ! BTW , did you get some of the rims or the guys phone number ? RetroJim
i can't fault for trying to helping someone out , but it is always best to remain silent when you are in someone else's place of business. you basically stepped in between two guys making a deal you know the old saying....no good deed goes unpunished
The s****per was probably pissed because he planned on giving the guy about 10% of what they were worth, then turning them for a handsome profit...otherwise he wouldn't have acted the way he did. You did nothing wrong in my book, it's one thing to make a profit, it's another to knowingly screw someone over because of their ignorance. I almost got myself in bad trouble once doing the same thing at a trading post in Gallup, NM. The person behind the register was going to give these two Navajos a $20 gas card (only good at his station) for about $500 worth of handmade jewelry. I told them he was a thief and that they should take their stuff downtown and try selling it to the tourists. The employee threatened to shoot me if I didn't get out of his store right then and there. I left, but I told every person I knew that story for years, and in my opinion, that trading post was nothing better than a thieving chop shop.
If I knew him that well, here is what I would have done. After the guy dropped his old mags I would have went up the SIL and told him that you would like them and would be willing to pay over s**** price for them. If I ran into a guy at his house loading s****, I might point out things to him that isn't s****. At the s**** yard, I would have done the above. You are at his "house". Rules are different than how you would do things at your house.
I was taking the trash out today and while lifting the bag into the trash can I rememberd I didn't lift with my knees, do you think I'll be ok ?
Those s**** yard guys keep the good stuff and resell it. Paid the guy $2 for a wheel, resell for $40. If you want to stay in good tell him you were clueless and he'll understand or he"s an ***hole. I do see your point about rescuing the rims, if he's only *****ing about his markup on the s**** price he's an ***hole. Now he only has one option, accept that you sorry for the mistake or he's an ***hole. I make things soo simple!!!
I'm sorry, but I disagree. It sounds like the s****per knew full well that the wheels were worth more than s**** value, otherwise why get so upset about a few bucks? S****s what, $50 a ton right now? So we're talking about maybe $5 s**** value. That amount of money doesn't jive with how the guy reacted. No, I think he planned on turning a handsome profit at someone elses expense. Don't get me wrong, he's there to make money, I get that. But how desperate do you have to be to knowingly screw someone out of big bucks just to get them yourself? I like finding stuff cheap too and turning it for a profit, but I still tell people that their artillery wheels are worth more that $1 a piece...or that the toolbox a widow has for sale for $50 is worth more like $500. No difference between me doing that and a business owner acting the same way. Just because he runs a business doesn't automatically give him free rein to take advantage of people. ...but that's just my worthless opinion. I could be completely wrong...
Damn him for turning a profit. Anyone else here ever turn a profit? The s**** guy doesn't get paid to educate people that bring stuff to him. That's not his job. His job is to open the gate, weigh the item and pay the guy. S**** guys do indeed often times s**** things worth far more than s**** value.

If the s**** guy was any kind of decent person shouldn't he be the one making sure the guy with the wheels was getting the best deal by possibly pointing out his options????? Or have I just stumbled on the reason I am in my 30's and still don't have a penny to my name...........
s**** guys buy cheap and hold onto the stuff till they can make a profit,they sell some items that can turn them a little more than s**** price. telling a customer not to s**** something on his property is robbing his family..so the s**** guy had every right to be pissed. if someone came in your brake shop and told your customers they didn't need new brakes..you would get pissed too.
If you come into my business and do ANYTHING to take money away from me, I'm going to say something to you about it. No yelling or any of that, but you ARE going to hear about it. Just my $.02. worth.
I think it has more to do with the color. The darker ones are the heaviest with more pigmentation used to make them that shade. But then if it had drawstrings I'd certainly would go see a doctor.
I use to work for a s**** yard ,Its all about money ,Cash buisness ,Most of the owners are crooks.They dont sell the wheels whole they pay you the lowest price ,Aluminum They are actually clip aluminum.So he triple's his money ,Same as siding ,I was in charge of the aluminum department .Window frames if you clean the rubber and chop the ends are clip .Its all about metal composition and yeild ,Small wire Has 80% yeild as number 1 copper and they pay you penny's . I worked there 5 years and I am close friend of the supervisor ,Neither of us work there any more .I quit the same day he did.Writing was on the wall........The money was fantastic Number 2 copper cut off the solder joints and you have number 1 copper .Br*** and lead and stainless is pretty straight up .Work on spread .......But I agree with you It is a shame to s**** nostalgia stuff. This time of year is slow for s****yards ,
You worry too much. Being a **** to a **** is the way the world turns. Next time don't talk as much, wait until the other guy leaves and pick up the wheel that you want. As long as it don't weigh more than your load of course, because the girl at the scales will pick up on that in a heartbeat. Can't leave weighing more than when you came in.
