i have a 1960 vintage cadillac 390 in my model a truck. i have a slight tap in the top end. i'm not sure if enough oil is getting to the top. oil pressure is good though. any advice on this oiling system would be appreciated ! thanks, mike
Might have a collapsed or gummed up lifter... I had one that was hard to figure out and it ended up being a worn rocker arm/shaft.
thanks, i put a quart of marvel mystery oil in it. i may just need to run it a bit. i just got it up and running.
That stuff works wonders.... just get it good and hot... and make sure you change your oil after a while. If you dont have a problem with pulling stuff apart, it might be worth your while to pull the rocker shafts off and make sure you dont have any bent pushrods or worn rockers arms, etc... Might save money in the long run. A rocker arm, or a rocker shaft will have a..... heavier sound to it, Almost like a rod knock. Where as a lifter, will just have a slight rythmic tick... Post a picture of your Model A!
thanks again. it is a light ticking. i have only ran it a few minutes, so i will run it longer to get it hot. i was just wondering if there were any problems getting oil to the rocker arms. i will post a couple of pics this week.
Put a quart of trannie fluid in it to see if the detergents can loosen up the filth......otherwise clean the rocker shafts.
