Need Denver, CO HAMB'er help...shipping

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by thrashingcows, Feb 10, 2010.

  1. I bought a exterior visor for my 48 Desoto off E-pay and the seller doesn't want to do anything but drop it off somewhere for them to ship it. No packaging or anything!!

I'm quite cheesed off over the lack of effort being put forward from this seller and I have been talking to UPS, FedEx etc in his own home town, on my long distance dollar, to try and figure out so way to get this from Denver, CO to Washington state.

I have done some searching in the archives and see guys getting motor and stuff shipped for a couple hundred bucks. The cheapest I've managed to get from the "main" shipping carriers is $150.

Any thoughts, ideas, help will be muchly appreciated. Since I can't rely on the seller to give me any.

  2. Did he say he would not deal with packing it?

Maybe he means to drop it at UPS store or similar. They will pack it, but it will cost more.

If it does not break down at all, like in half, its going to be pretty expensive to ship any way because it will be oversize according to their limits.

He can ship it greyhound bus. I don't think they require any wrapping. just drop off and go. It will be way less than $150 too. Probably closer to $40-50.

I can say that the prices that Mailboxes ETC or the UPS Store charge for packaging are exorbitant. No deals there I'm afraid. I'm not sure there is an answer except to bite the bullet if you want it bad enough.

Try telling him to drop it off at Greyhound bus station. They may send it it with just a shipping label. I've done it before. But how valuable is the item and how pissed will you be if it arrives bent in half?

They will want it wrapped in card board at least.

Find the nearest Greyhound stations on both ends. Their website will show you that. They require parts to be clean & any sharp edges/corners protected. Remember, it will go in the baggage compartment. Furnish your phone #, they call you for pick-up when it arrives at your station. Cheapest, easiest & great service. I've sent hoods & fenders cross-country with them, no problem.

  6. I have a similar frustration with a lot of sellers who don't want to ship to Canada - I guess filling out an additional form is too much work . I could see if I was expecting them to ship further for no additional cost but I am always willing to pay what it takes to get stuff here. A lot of the time they will agree to "help me out" but must charge me for their "extra effort". Some just flat out refuse. I don't get it - with an international venue like eBay, I would think people would be willing to do what it takes to sell their items. Seems lazy to me.

  7. Retitle your post or post again with something like "need a Denver CO HAMBer to give me some help with shipping", someone like VAPHEAD will likely chime in. Or just send him a PM and ask him if he knows anyone that could lend a hand, it sure as hell can't hurt.

See if you can get a hamber in the area to pick it up from him ,Pay the hamber to package properly and ship it .Its just an idea ,Don't slam me for it .I use to do this for a guy in ebay ,He lives in austraila .He would ship the parts to me and then I would ship the parts to him .Of course when he sent me the shipping money ...Always through paypal. The guy your dealing with is an ass.I'd contact paypal immediately .........He's responsible to ship to you ,It is a contract .Sounds like he want to get paid for shipping .

  9. I'll change my heading...thanks for the advice.

  10. Thanks for the advice on the Greyhound...hadn't thought of that.

But since this guy won't lift a finger to package anything I don't think they will accept the visor for shipping...AS IS.

So what did he say in the auction ad? Either he misrepresented what he was going to be willing to do or you figured shipping wouldn't be a problem? HAMB relay might be your best bet.

    Where is he located?

  13. The auction stated, and I quote..."Shipping can be calculated by the nearest UPS store"

I figured it would at least be packaged, to some degree at least.

  14. He sent me this address for a shipping company,

    Mail Boxes Etc
    191 University Blvd
    Denver, CO 80206
    Phone: (303) 399-9355

So he can't be far from there.

No wonder it is so expensive. That address is in the cherry creek shopping district, right next to saks fifth avenue.
How far will he deliver it to? And what are you willing to spend on shipping? I wont require anything, but greyhound can be brutal.

Does it look anything like this

  17. Ghost28....Yup looks very similar to that.

What am I willing to spend on shipping?....guess around a $100 or so.

  18. How rare is this visor? I'm asking because I'd almost tell him to stick it in his ass.

Did you pay alot for it? Maybe he is butt hurt because he didn't get enough for it.

How hard is it to wrap some bubble wrap and cardboard on it? If it was not pick up only, he would have to think he would need to prepare it for delivery.

I'd tell him to get bent.

The one I have seperates in the middle. If he can get it to me, I will package it and get prices for ya on shipping let me know what I need to do to help...John

  20. No I friggin stole it!! But it was a no reserve auction so it went to what it went to.

Regardless if he's pissed over what he got for it, I would expect a minimum amount of help for packaging and shipping. I know I would give what help I could regardless.

That's all I'm asking for is some cardboard and bubble wrap but he answered...it was sold AS IS!!

  21. John, I appreciate the help.

Let me know what address works for you, maybe as a drop off point near that shopping center?

I'll E-mail him and let him know I have someone to pick it up and see what he says.

I'll PM you the information when I get it. Or PM me what might work for you.

  22. I'm with ya there. sometimes ebay goes in the buyer's favor and sometimes in the seller's. either way, the transaction should be handled the same. If it went cheap, maybe he is hoping you do tell him to F off and he can resell it.

You can always grade this experience on his feedback.

Good luck, seems like you have some local help .
