i'll add a tip for mounting the module: use some plastic/nylon/delrin spacers under the screws to get it away from the sheetmetal and let air flow under it. they don't like heat. 3/8's to a half inch is super.

I have several of the Duraspark distributor modules that go inside the distributor that fit the 6`s,come get one for free, brand new. I forget the technical term for what they are called.

    *EDIT* The pickup assembly.

A good out of the way place is inside the car, under the dash...away from heat/moisture.

This is what I'm working with. The module does have a blue grommet.

Free?! Really. How can I get in on that? Free is good since I'm way over "allowed" budget.

On my 85 Bronco 300ci 6 I got an early points style dist. from NAPA and put a Pertronics unit in it. At least 25 K on it without any problems.

Some one told me today that I should have asked for a module and coil for a 62 fairlane and not for the motor which is a 200 out of an 81 T-Bird. Is that true? I did get those parts for an 81.
    Also:
In looking at the diagram, I see where the red and white wires go, do I cut the pig tail off and just add wire or do I find another pigtail to plug into?
    And:
I think that to avoid moisture, I will go with an under dash install... do I bore a hole in my firewall for that?

  7. First point, That person is WRONG. There are no "modules" on a 62 anything!! You have the right stuff.

Point two. You can cut the connector off the module if you want or cut the donour cars (80 Tbird) wiring off to get that connector pigtail and wire it in. This would be preferable if you ever need to swap the module later. If the donour car is gone then any Ford of that vintage will have the same module ( early 80's Mustang Tempos etc) and hence wire loom connector

Point three, As for waterproofing, that module was designed to live in nasty daily driver crappy salt and smengy enviroment and last for years which they generally did. Its electronics are sealed in resin. Your engine bay will probably seem like luxury compared to where they normally lived. That being said if you want the hidden look to keep it more period then by all means mount it under dash by extending the wires.

I usually cut the factory connectors off and replace them with G.M. style "weatherpack" connectors. Most well stocked Jobber type shops handle them, (or Speedway, for that matter) and they do a great job of sealing the wiring from the outside ellements. Less bulky too. On Judy's wagon, I just yesterday mounted the module right on the firewall back behind the motor. Probably not the best location from a heat stand point, but it should be fine for the long haul. I'll try to put a picture up at some point tomorrow.
