    Hello Fellas,

After spending countless hours here for years using this wonderful resource tool I am making my first post. Can’t begin to tell you how appreciative I am and how much I have learned just by searching old threads. I mean it when I say to all of you, Thank you.

I have a new to me, Henry 32 Roadster that I am starting to do some work on. Would be much appreciated if I could hear from the experts here as to what axel and spindles I’m working with. Looking to know possible manufacturer and forged or cast?

I did give the axle a good wack with a screwdriver handle and it rings like a bell but I’m also under the impression that cast also can ring.

I thank you all in advance for your help and look forward to talking more in the future.

Spindles are 37-41 round backs, brake backing plates are 42-48, no Idea on the axle.

Is there a logo in the center of the axle beam?

  5. Any markings or castings on the axle?

No markings or castings that I can see. I’ll have to crawl back under to double check.

The spindles are 37-41 Ford style, but look to be Ch***is Engineering made, they would be forged. They made good parts.

I agree. And the axle looks like ch***is engineering also, which would make sense. It would have a CE on the rear centre, although with the holes drilled and polishing etc it may be gone.

I agree, looks like a drilled CE axle with CE spindles and probably Super Bell or Magnum steering arms with 46-48 brake backing plates and Buick brake drums. Good stuff. Can't tell if it's got a 4 bar or hair pins for radius rods. In the 80's and 90's I did a lot of this type of front end and with 4 bar radius rods and by the early 2000's went almost exclusively to hairpins or bones. Can't quite see the logo on the shock to tell the brand. Also looks like a Posie spring?

Thank you all! The HAMB never disappoints. It has a 4 bar setup which maybe wouldn’t have been my first choice but I didn’t build it.

From what I’m hearing it seems like decent parts which does not totally surprise based on how the rest of the car was done. It was a very nice build but completed back in the mid to late 80s and time has taken its toll a bit.

Unfortunately the left Buick drum is out of round. So I’ll have to address that.

Post up some photos of the rest of the car.

I have 2 drilled chromed axles from SoCal and yours looks identical. The shaping and reflections in the axle web outside of the spring perch is quite distinctive but having said that I've no particular experience that I can recall of others, so for all I know they might all be like that! There are no markings whatsoever on a SoCal axle to the best of my recollection.

Looks like this car was built before So-Cal started selling axles.

The HAMB thrives on in progress pictures no matter what stage of the build your in. We love vintage ch***is photos to see how it was back when and how it is now. Don't be shy.
