Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kikinrods, Jun 12, 2008.

  1. What number am I thinking of?

The inventor of the geodesic dome was also famous for inventing a unique three wheeled car.
    What did he name it?
    Dymaxion.

    Who? Buckminster Fuller

He was a member of our local Mensa group before he died.

  2. The size in cubic inches of a Crosley engine?

    44 CID

    *****************************

A tiny Crosley Hot Shot was leading it's class at LeMans (apparently they had a class for tiny street cars?) when the generator quit, and the car eventually came to a stop when the battery ran down.

    *********************************

A Crosley COBRA engine was so named because of what characteristic?

"COpper BRAzed" It was basically a sheetmetal engine that gave lots of trouble until replaced with the cast iron engine.

  3. STP stands for what?

    "Scientifically Treated Petrolium"

The Andy Granatelli STP turbine car (oops another helicopter powered car) that was entered in the Indy 500 was sponsored by what company?
STUDEBAKER. Yes Stude was out of the car business by 1965, but it still owned STP and sponsored the 1969 car.

Studebaker was still a thriving and profitable company for decades afterwards as an industrial equipment supplier, and a leasing company.

OK heres one... Name TWO cars powered by helicopter engines....

do I really have to tell ya now?

Tucker, and the Studebaker sponsored INDY STP TURBINE CAR

  4. What brand of car blew the doors off the high dollar Mustangs and Camaros in the Trans-Am races ??

AMC yes American Motors- yes RAMBLER NASH HUDSON

Mark Donahue (probably spelled it wrong) and the AMX/Javelins he prepped and drove, were unbeatable. He died when he tried Grand Prix racing and went into a slide, his helmet hitting a fence.

  5. What model of car was the fiberglass shell that Don Garlits used to cover a dragster when he tried to have the first "bodied car" to reach 200 mph in the quarter?

    Dodge Dart

I think someone just now posted pics on this board of the Garlits body covered in weeds and looking abandoned..

  6. What famous new-car dealership, noted for their muscle cars, used the headlines from a real life police chase in his advertizing about one of his cars outrunning the cops while doing 120 MPH on three wheels?
(one tire was chewed up completely and the rim was throwing showers of sparks, then chewed the wheel down to a nub)

    Mr Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge.

I used to love their commercials for the muscle cars.

  7. Can anyone name the FULL name of the REAL LIFE race that inspired the worse-than-moronic Gumball Rally movie?

Car And Driver Magazine sponsored the
"Cannonball Baker Sea To Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash"

One of the entries was the "Little Rock Tanker" a van that was loaded with gas tanks, a Cadillac full of girls (I forget the nickname), and a Ferrari (was it Dan Gurney or Brock Yates driving?) among other interesting entries in the real life race.

"Cannonball Baker Sea To Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash"

(can you say "two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun" really fast for a free Big Mack?) Anyone remember the 1974 McD commercial and free burger promotion? I can still say it very fast.. you know- in case the promotion comes back.

  8. I'm tired. I'll go to bed after this last one.

What model of car was being chased by Steve McQueen's Mustang in the movie Bullitt?

    Dodge Charger.

That Dodge lost a lot of hubcaps during the chase, and at least one was put back on the car in the middle of the high speed chase somehow!!!
