I am in the process of installing a 1959 389 in my F100. Does anyone make a adaptor to put a spin on filter on this engine. It would save me fron putting a pocket in the frame. Or a remote filter kit would work. Sugestions? The truck has a Chevelle clip and where the frame has been joined I'm touching that big *** filter can.

If you can find a replacement element, the canister type is way more efficient, if it fits in your rig, of course. If not, later motors use a mount that should bolt on your motor and points the filter straight on the regular motors. The 421 and 428 H.O. and S.D. motors used one that kicked the filter back at an angle to clear the factory headers.

Checked the factory 57 and 66 manuals when I was home a couple hours ago, block pictures in both manuals show mounting surfaces that look at least in the pics, very much the same. Vaguely remember it being possible when I owned three 57 Safaris in the early 80s. Easy enough to check, just try bolting the later one on. Failing that, an inexpensive 3/4 or one inch aluminum plate bolted to the mounting pad to carry lines to a remote mounted filter can't be too hard to make, even if all you're got is a $40 HarborFreight drill press, an old sabre saw, a small hand held sander (belt type preferred), and a tap and die set (borrow a good one, if you don't like oil leaks). A couple of hours at the kitchen table, lines and remote mount from
Summit or Jegs and you're there.

1960 & LATER PONTIACS HAD A SPIN ON OIL FILTER .... ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS GET THE ALUMINUM ADAPTER OFF A LATER PONTIAC AND BOLT IT ON.

I HAVE A '60 389 IN MY '55 F-100 AND THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR THE '60 & LATER PONTIAC SPIN ON OIL FILTER SET UP.

NO NEED FOR ANY OTHER ******** PARTS, THATS ALL YOU NEED

I think I have the adapter DeSoto is talking about in a tray on my garage floor. I had to buy SOO many different blocks and heads and manifolds and this and that, I'm not real sure about what I've got.

I can take a gander tomorrow when I get home for ya tho.

DeSoto PM you earlier can't use the floor. So everyone is saying that the oilfilter unit that bolts to the block is the same and if I get a later model that had a spin on oil filter it should bolt up?

Thanks for all the info everyone. I now have one off of a GTO. Tons of room. Again thanks to all.

  8. I think even the Chevy one is the same part, I saw one loose a while back and it looked identical to me. Usually that's one of the pieces I save off a junk 301, the filter adapter -
