    Hello -

The 4spd in my '57 Chevy 3100 pops out of 2nd gear when you let off the gas, so it's time for a rebuild.

I bought the ****** off of Craig's list, and was told that it was an early Borg Warner T10 (not a Super T10), and based on pics and diagrams I found on the web, it IS a T10. It has a 9 bolt side cover and numerous markings that say "T10".

I'd like to, if I could, confirm that it is an early T10, and see if I can find exactly what the ****** came out of.

    Here's the markings:

Tailshaft: dated 12-14-64, also marked T10K-7

P*** side main case: T10-1B, WG Div, W-1

Driver's side main case, stamped vertically on the ID pad - WC1752

    Shifter cover: T10-148B

I'd appreciate any help at all in confirming that this transmission is an early T10, and also if we can ID what it came out of. I can post some pics, but the ****** is still in the truck, so it will be hard to see much of anything.

    Thanks...

    Chris

Main case is cast iron. Tail shaft and shifter cover is non-magnetic, so I'd say they're both aluminum.

  4. No help in telling you what it's out of, but if it's popping out of gear that's an identifier of a early T10 (and it's usually 2nd). The later ones had back-cut teeth on the syncros to fix this issue. And a 'standard' rebuild kit won't fix it either; the problem is the syncro teeth on both the offending gear and the syncro slider have become damaged. A new br*** blocker ring may help, but usually only temporarily. Best bet is to replace 1st/2nd gears and the complete syncro slider with the newer updated parts. Parts are still available, but it can get expensive.

If that's all it does wrong, don't mess with it - it's just like new ...
