I dug this generator out of the bowels of my garage. I can't remember where or when I acquired it, but I'd like to get a rebuild kit for it and use it on my roadster. I'm pretty sure it's a Delco Remy but the tag is missing. The only identifying numbers on it are in the pics. My only real concern is whether or not it's 12V. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Probably 12V since pretty much everything converted over after '54.

Just an ordinary '50's GM stepdown case generator, used to be common as dirt.

Thanks for the replies. My only concern for IDing is so that I can order the correct parts. Looking online it seems like there's a lot of variables

There is a 7 digit number stamped into the body some where that can be matched up in a motors Manual that can get you the accurate info for the generator as to the out put so that you can match up the proper Voltage regulator. All seem to start with 110.... A generator off a Cadillac with power accessories will have the same basic shape as a generator off of a 6 cyl Chevy but probably take a different VR. It may take some research to find that number in a Motors Manual. It's a GM generator but it could be any GM and not necessarily a Chevrolet unit. Look it up in the book in the specifications for for the electrical system to get it's exact history. I recently just learned this. I always thought that you had to know what it came off of to determine the VR etc.

Well, the front frame bracket comes back as '55 Corvette... Hope that narrows it down.

The #9010 stamped on the case is the lester reman number. It crosses to 1955-1957 chevrolet cars and trucks both 6cyl and 8cyl. It is the short case low amp version, usually used on low or no option cars. Hope this helps, we can also help with parts.

    Thanks everyone.

    E1956v,
I'm bummed I didn't see your post sooner. I ordered a rebuild kit for a '55 chevy from Exklers this morning, I hope it fits! If it doesn't I will order from you.

Yeah, I was looking for that ID # but couldn't see one. All of the numbers on the generator are in the pics unfortunately.
