Years ago used one of these neutral start switches on a TH400. Know it was off a GM van. This was the spare I kept just in case. Does anyone know what models and years it was used and if replacments are available today? This would work good on the SP400 that is in my A coupe and enable me to avoid using a switch on the steering column or one of those aftermarket column switches mounted on the trany. Thanks for the help Canuck
The switches were available a few years back ... but were over a hundred dollars ... Garage price. I checked the price at two different GM dealers ... I get them off Chevrolet and GMC vans ... about 1970 or so. Easy to tell if it is the right one without crawling under the van ... just look at the column. Later ones have the neutral start switch on the column. As a side note ... the Turbo 350 transmissions had the mounting bracket cast into the case ... with two ears , the 400 Turbo had a separate removable bracket. It used two of the pan bolts to hold it. ( like the one shown ) That's the one I have in the 32 Roadster. I also am using the SP stuff out of a Buick in my Chevrolet case. The switch from the 350 can be used on the 400 bracket
1993459 might be the part number? DD is a step van, this number fits 68-69 or it might be 1994139 that fits the 71-72 vans (G10-30), and 70-72 DD my parts book only goes up to 1972 though
That is why I get every one of them I can ... off old dead vans. The problem is that now about half of the vans in the salvage yard have been cut out and wired straight ... But I have 5 or 6 spares ...
Thanks for all the help guys. Running a later van column but the column mounted switch isnt the cleanest looking and quite visable in a model A. Will keep up the search for some extra trany mounted switches, but do not have great hopes, quite a few years since I have seen vans of that vintage in the local yards, but you never know. Don't want to go that route without a couple of spares on hand. The one I have was over 20 years old when removed and now they are over 35 years, so who knows how good they are. Will look into some modern after market solutions like Lokar's ****on switch version. Don't like the versions that utilize a switch off a column and mount it under the car, especially with the weather we get in this part of the country. Thanks again. The model info, part numbers and diagrams are a great help. Canuck
you might consider using the dreaded new street rod parts.... http://store.summitracing.com/partd...925134+4294839069+4294844567+115&autoview=sku
As much as I like the GM neutral start switch set up ... I bought a Lokar neutral start switch for the 32 3W ... The GM switch did not adapt as well to the 700R4. I bought my Lokar switch from Shane T ( Hamber ) ...
