below are pictures of the straight axle on my g***er they are 5 on 4.75 chevy bolt pattern im wanting to change the drums to disc but dont know what year to get that will bolt on and be able to use my spindles i was told it was 47ish chevy truck maybe older i need your expertise to tell me what to get and possibly where and what to buy thanks.
Most likely 53 - 54 chevy car on pickup axle and spindles …….. You should ask on the main page.
First guess would be truck, is the axle straight between the springs? Cars were not. If you can find a number on the spindle you should be able to identify it here- http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/381.htm Is that number in the last picture 3656872? If so it's 41-53 1/2 ton.
If I remember my Chevy stuff correctly they are Chevy truck from '47-'59 or so with '53-'54 chevy p***enger car brakes. In either case Speedway can help with disc brake kits along with a whole bunch of other companies as well.
Looks just like a 1949 chevy truck axle I used to have. The shock mounts and drag link bracket are custom.
I have the same get up. Those are early p***enger car brakes and backing plates. I can't raise my right hand as to the spindle origin, but I believe it is early PU.
Check with droppedaxles.com or get on the Speedway online catalog. Speedway has a diagram explaining the car and truck spindles. http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/early_chevy_discbrake_conversions.html Either can be of help........... Jeff
