hello I am converting 53 bel air to a v8. The cost to rebuild original engine will be more than v8 swap. I need help what transmission I'm looking at.

I would say 350, but a picture of the whole ****** would clinch it.

TURBO 400 for the win! Not a lot of long shaft Chevrolet patterns however; most want the short version.

Looks to be a Turbo 400 and the dude on the other side of the p*** types faster than I do

I can't find the info that ID's the trans from the tag with what searching I did but that length of extension housing usually came with full size sedans and wagons.

Sweet thanks for the response you guys. From searching here I see everyone with their v8 350 swaps install th350. They are running driveshaft from s10. If I pick up s10 driveshaft, length should be fine correct? Only the yoke need to be changed because the teeth pattern.

Initially, I said I thought it was a TH400, and probably still is. But, it could possibly be a TH375; it would take looking at the splines of the output shaft to know that. Or, seeing the underside of the extension housing, where it would say "375". Basically, a TH375 was a TH400 case and guts, with a TH350 output shaft.

72-76 is the information I have on the TH375 transmission, even though the tag says 89 on the OP's transmission.
