I am mounting a Ford 9" in my '47 Chevy Coupe and I am having some trouble identifying the housing. I don't know what it came out of, but I am getting some conflicting info when I try to find out. For example: Here is a pic of the flange end. The axle flange is shaped like the Big Ford New Style housing, but the bolt measurements are the same as the Big Ford Old Style (3.5" x 2.375"). The bearing on the axle is the big sealed type ball bearing. Any ideas on what the deal is with that?
Ford made a bunch of different combinations - 5 i am aware of. What you can't mix up is the brake offset, that is where you need to keep the backing plate to the rear or you'll have a time getting the right combo. You'll get some comments about doing an intro.
Thanks for the reply, oj. The shape of the flange is just throwing me off. Mostly just curious to see if anyone knows what it might have come out of.
That chart is just to show the measurements, the flange shape varies. I have probably thirty 9" fords with that shape flange and the old big bearing ends.
I do....the axles are 28 spline, 30 inches long, 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern, 2 3/8" brake offset. The brakes are 11" drum.
looks to be bronco the the early years are small bearings the 75-77 wear either big or small bearings one but there all 28 spline . they all had ford truck 5x5 1/2 bolt patteren.
