Hello, guys- been a while since I've been on here, but knew one or two of you might be able to help ID this motor and help me figure out what's up with it.
This was left at my shop by an old client that p***ed away, his family said "Keep it". It's obviously a BBC, has Brodix heads, a mechanical roller cam and roller lifters and rockers. Cam is stamped 139536 and 90D2A. Has mechanical roller lifters and rockers, bore is 4.470. Crank has balancing holes drilled in it, but not sure if it's internal or external balance. Block doesn't have the standard Chevy casting numbers, but has a Bowtie cast into the p***enger side apron. Not sure if this is a Chevy block or aftermarket. Any help would be appreciated!

    From a quick web search:
The early BowTie block that you listed has standard MkIV oiling as well as stock lifter bores and height. These blocks came from the factory rough finished for a 4.250" bore. You'll have to check what that one has been bored out to. These blocks do have reinforced decks, lower bores, bulkheads, and main cap areas, unlike standard 454 or 502 engines. The block can be bored to 4.560".

you don't want it, send it to me.

But seriously, it's a Chevy block from the old days, but with the big bore.

The tricky part is the balance...although you won't find many folks who want the compression ratio that those pistons will provide, so when it gets set up with less compression for the next guy, it'll have to be rebalanced anyways, most likely.

you know that engines get built for a specific application, and finding someone who wants that particular combination for a race engine is just about impossible.

The parts are worth a bit to someone looking to build a sort of big inch big block. Did you measure the stroke?

Not sure if the stroke yet. Thinking about pulling the rotating ***embly and sending it out for balancing. Pretty sure it's already been balanced, but at least then they can tell me which balance & flywheel to use.

The crank is a factory 454 forging, 4" stroke, which were externally balanced, not saying that this one is, but it may have been converted to internal. Looks like you got yourself a 502!
