All, This past week I was doing yard work, helping out my 85 year old parents. I took down some dead trees etc, on their property. To cut to the chase, the daughter of the lady next door, who checks in on her mom from time to time - got pissed off (thinking the trees etc were on their property - not the case), and called the local village natzi's. They roll up and start chewing me out about my Dad's old 1971 Bronco, on the property. That it is in violation of code blah blah blah (being rusted/ un-drivable, health hazard etc.), and needs to be gone in 10 days. So; I need to locate a scrap yard outside of Chicago (as I now hear that due to the new Mayor, you need a scrap permit in the city). Anyone in NE IL or SE WI know of a metal salvage yard, where I can trailer the old 71 Bronco to, and get the scrap price on it. It's too far gone with rust to restore. I intended to junk it anyway, but just don't like how heavy handed the village was on the matter Please PM me if of any info on salvage/scrap yards in the mentioned region. TIA!
Cant help ya on scrap yard locations i'm in Florida. If you scrap it, save the 9 inch rearend out of the Bronco it's a desirable rearend to a hotrodder. They are 58 inches wide backing plate to backing plate. I'd save the transfer case too, a Bronco person would buy that. Put it up on craigslist for a few days for a little more than scrap price you might get a buyer. If it has a title thats worth something to a Bronco person also. Hope it works out for ya.
go to www.findascrapyard.com you can enter your zip code and get listings of scrap yards in your area.
I'm not sure where you are but I am in northern Illinois and know of a couple in Elgin, Illinois or DeKalb, Illinois. Let me know if you want info.
There are a couple of yards in Aurora ( east side) and Joliet (near the old Joliet prison of Blues Brothers fame), but I think Craig's List is your best option, just as others have indicated. Early Broncos have their own following and the frame and drivetrain should readily find a new home for more than scrap value, especially if there is a title.
