    Help! Urgent!
OK DOT says my trailer is too big. I need someone with a class B Commercial drivers license to get my dually and trailer back across Texas State lines---or tow my trailer and I can drive my dually.
    Any commercial drivers out there?

UPDATE, looks like we have it covered

    Thanks
    Marcy

Looks like we have it handled---Viva La HAMB!
My truck and trailer have a combined rating of 20,500, 30 ft oversized height box trailer and Dodge Ram dually. States are after "free" money with "routine trailer inspections"

    Thanks,

  11. Good to hear you are on your way again Marcy. With all the miles you rack up, it is too bad the laws from State to State aren't the same. We have the same problem in Canada. Pat.

  12. Good on ya Marcy, glad you got on your way.

  13. You are right at that girl! There is a scale on the South edge of Rapid City Sd on Hwy 79, I pass it everyday. It has NEVER been open after 5PM in the 4 years we have lived out here. Last night it was open at 8PM! Had trucks lined up and several pulled off to the side for inspections.

In FLA, I had to attend a D.O.T. siminar in Jan,the new 26,000 applies with a C.D.L drivers license to everyone except MOTORHOMES,which are classified as recreational vehicles, thats about as unfair as all of us paying taxes on everything but multi million dollar churches are tax exempt.

    Couple further updates!
The Officer called my shop this morning to say he was wrong about the commercial drivers license and dropped that ticket.
Thanks to Sid from Sid's Dropped Axles for hooking me up with a driver anyway----better safe than sorry with the bureaucracy!

Be careful out there guys---states want your money. If you are a racer and "might" win prize money you are now classified as "commercial" same goes for car shows that might have prizes of value and he said they are going after rodeo guys and swap meet vendors too.

    Marcy's right,

One of my friends races circle track cars and was traveling from nh to nj. He pulled into a rest area in ct to check the trailer and grab a bite to eat. Keep in mind he has a 1 ton pickup with a 24ft enclosed trailer, no big deal right? Well a DOT officer pulled up and asked to see his log book. he just chuckled and asked him "seriously, its just an enclosed car trailer." The officer said because it said his racing team name on the side its a commercial vehicle. He asked him if they ever win any money racing, now if you've ever done any circle track racing you know you end up spending more than you win, its just a hobby. But apparently if you win any prize money its a business. The officer made him sit at the rest area for 6 hours because he didnt have a log book and that would be the required rest time. Needless to say he took off the race teams name and slapped on a not for hire sticker.

Dually alone qualifies you as potentially commercial in Oklahoma at least if it's rated at 10,000 GVW. (or the combination of truck and trailer)
At most you would probably just get asked the usual questions---are you in the business of re-selling cars? Do you show for profit? etc.
Mums the word. Don't mention your car's trophy status;)

Mine is marked "Not for Hire" on all sides----does not matter anymore, if they want to look and question they will.

  19. I'm in the process of certifying my car trailer for a commercial sticker as well as the truck I have to replace my 1/2 ton. The laws up here are getting very strict about trailers with tandem axles and the vehicles hauling them.My new "old" truck will be a 97 Dodge 2500 4 x 4 licensed as commercial as well as the trailer.I will up the GVW to the max 4499KG so the goddamn cops and MTO can kiss my ass......
