....went to rent a car carrier trailer Satruday to pick my GMC in Valley Forge. Due to rental insurance reasons most places won't rent them anymore(I found this out saturday). Uhaul will rent but you have to rent one of their trucks to carry it. And I don't know anybody that has a trailer to borrow. I'm calling out for some help. Would anybody be willing to transport for me for a reasonable cash consideration? Or could somebody point me in the direction of a trailer I could borrow? Or something, PLEASE. Thank you for your time.
You can pick it up by renting a car dolley if the vehicle is on its wheels. You will need a good size pickup to have enough power and weight to offset the load. Dolleys are pretty cheap to rent. Call down in the area your picking the vehicle up and reserve it instead of dragging one empty all the way.
I was thinking of that. My concern is the rear wheel bearings, though. Been sitting for a little while. If push comes to shove, that'll be the way and cross my fingers, but want to try to find alternatives right now.
Were you trying to rent a trailer one-way from Philly or were you dealing with the local Uhaul? I rented a full trailer from the local Uhaul a few months ago to drag a car home- no problems. Maybe rental rules are tighter in the bigger cities or vary by branch?
I was gonna rent here and take it out. Damn, they told me I would have to rent a truck to rent the trailer. Which Uhaul place did you rent from if you don't mind my asking? How you doing? Just got back from a nice vacation myself. Not looking forward to the daily grind.
I rented from the place on Roosevelt here in York. Originally reserved a dolly but they ran out and upgraded me to a full trailer for free. No insurance issues, but they did make me tell them what I was towing & what I was pulling with, what kind of hitch, etc. Apparently they have some magic formulas? Maybe that's the difference? Might help if you tell them you're dragging home something lighter? My grand total was around 50 bucks for the day and it did the job. Cheaper than buying a trailer or a towing bill. Just my 2 cents from semi-recent experience. Good luck.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes they do have a formula on all car and truck combinations for dollying cars. They have info on weights clear back to the Ford-T. When you add the weight of the trailer it takes a hell of a vehicle to haul it to be safe.
You should not need to rent a truck to then rent a trailer. They will want you to have a truck with appropriate towing capacity and cl*** 3 hitch, though.
Hmmm, I have a Jeep with High output 318 V-8. It hauls no problem. They didn't even ask me what i have. I think maybe I caught somebody on a bad day. I talked to the guy with the truck about 20 minutes ago. Told me the bearings are good, so I think I'll just dolly it and save the gas. Thanks though guys, appreciate your clearing up some things.
I think you need to give Ryder now Budget a call and see what they have to rent. U-Haul is not in the same league as Budget, just look at the trucks next time you see one. We rent from Budget once or twice a month and have been REAL happy with them for over ten years now.
