I'm looking for information on where the mounting points are for the 36 Ford Radiator.
From what I can tell. the base is mounted to the sides of the frame rail and secured on top with the two rods stemming from the firewall to the top of the radiator.
The original radiator was toast and there were several parts missing under the hood when I bought the car. So, I'm using a 3 row aluminum that has a pair of tabs on both sides and 2 on the bottom.
If anyone happens to have some photos of an aluminum radiator mounted in their car to post, that would be greatly appreciated

Should mount to the frame like many other old Fords. Radiator stay rods help hold them in place. As you add the front end braces and other pieces it all falls together.

Mounts on the frame. If you have a stock '36 frame with the mounts, there are two options. One is for pickup radiators the other for pax. I cannot recall without looking which one is which. I think that pax cars may use the rear frame hole. Then there are tabs on the grille that mount to the upper sides of the radiator on the pax cars. Finally there are the adjustment rods from the firewall that mount to the top of the radiator tank.

I'm sure that you are enjoying the same fine weather right now that I have south of you. I can take pics of a '36 radiator if you need them later when it is nicer outside.

The frame diagram on the Wescott website shows the different mounting points. You will also need the proper isolators - if the rad is stock mounting configuration

  5. keep in mind that there are three different radiator frame brackets for `35-`40 Fords. if you are using an original `36 frame you should be fine , if using a later or aftermarket frame you may have to swap them. the car on the right in my avatar is mounted on a `40 frame...had to switch them

  6. just looked , i'm in the rear hole of the bracket that 36tbird talked about

    here are some*****py pictures:

FYI - There were two different radiators used on 1936 Fords - mid-year update.

You should get a copy of the book '1935-'36 Ford Book available from The Early Ford V-8 Club of America. Details most of the running changes Henry made and would answer your questions.

I am running a 59A with alternator adapter to run a stock 6 blade fan and stock radiator. I ran this stuff before mounting the grille and fenders and it cools like crazy. With 180* thermostats, the engine only gets up to about 155*. Anyway, as I try now to mount the grille and fenders everything is too tight. I only have about 1/4" clearance at the top of the fan arc to the radiator and I am not satisfied with that. I have been thinking about making some sort of bracket that copies the top configuration of the radiator tank that ties into the grille on each side and the adjustment rods to the front of the grille where the bull-nose mounts. Then I would find another radiator that sits square to the engine like a '40 and is below the bracket. Anybody ever seen such a thing for a '36?

The bottom mounts in the front holes and the hole should be 2.5 inches to the front of the frame horn.
The top mounts the grill and the two top rods run to the firewall IMGP1809.JPG IMGP1818.JPG IMGP1808.JPG

Don't forget to factor in that the hood center strip mounts to the top of the rad and that same mount on the rad affixes the rear of the hood ornament, with the front of the ornament fastening to the front of the grill shell. The hood tops effectively from the top of the grille shell - much more complicated than the simplicity of everything prior to '36 where the shell formed the entire nose of the car.

The radiator was built by Wizard Radiators. We've put their radiators in some pretty wide cars and never had any problems. They are not cheap, but when you build a car you don't want to have to worry about it every time you are out driving. IMGP1806.JPG

electricfan1.JPG Zorro, that radiator is beautiful! I tried to use the fan from a Taurus on my stock radiator held in place with a fiberglass fan shroud I made. I thought I would have clearance with the engine, but alas I could not make it work and I am having to go back with the stock fan mounted on the alternator.

  16. How about mounting the fan in front of the radiator? (After you check the airflow direction of course). Or use a smaller diameter engine driven fan?

    36tbird,
How much room do you have between the engine and the radiator ? The thinnest fan out is made by Delta PAG, fan and shroud is 2.5 inches and moves 2700 cfm and has an adjustable controller wired in.
You can go with a fan in front but pushers do not work as good as a puller. The pusher only pushes air thru where the fan is mounted as the puller with a shroud will pull air thru the whole radiator.
I had to move my engine back for the blower drive, so I mounted the radiator and fan and then placed the engine and welded in the mounts.

I've tried the pushers before and ain't interested in that program. I'll make my set up work but to buy me another 1/4" clearance, I am going to machine a special pulley/fan mount. '36's are just a pain. I do not understand how Ford designed the top tank of the radiator over the fan with the adjustment of the generator belt being in the vertical. Mysteries of life, I reckon.
