OK guys I need some help on my 1959 F100. I am thinking on going with a dropped ft. axel instead of a mustang II. so i have a few questions... If I use a 4-6" drop axel will the tie rods hit the springs ? or eill they go over the springs? school me up and post up some pic's.
    Thanks

I don't know that there is a CHEAP way to lower one of these safely. In answer to your question about the tie rods. Where ever you get the axle, just order the dropped steering arms too. They are pretty cheap compared to an axle. Helped a buddy with his. He got all the parts from CPP.

I don't think anybody makes dropped steering arms for these trucks, they do make tie rod drops. The CPP drop axle only drops it 2" and I don't think you will need the toe rod drops with that axle. I had my original axle dropped 4" by Sid and I think that is about as low as you can go with a stock axle. Any lower that that and you will run into some major scrub line issues. I did have to use the tie rod drops with my axle and the tie rod is still very close to the spring. As a side note, I would stay away from the CPP drop axle. Just about every one I have ever seen has negative camber issues that can't be corrected.

I'd go with the Mustang II axle. Mine was easy to put in and it rides much better than the straight axle ever did. ( dropped 6 in.) I got a kit from Fat Man Fabrication and the instructions were clearly written and illustrated. If you have some basic welding skills the swap is easy. Here's a pic of the finished product.

  6. I've read here and elsewhere that a 2003 and up Crown Vic front crossmember with suspension, brakes, steering is a near bolt-in deal. Cheap, too, at about $250.00. Lowers it about 5".
