We have a 39 Mercury and need to install the windshield. It has a stainless strip around it that installs to the rubber and we need to know in what order to install. Should we install the gl*** into the rubber then into the car with the stainless going in last? One of the guys thinks the stainless and gl*** both should be in the rubber before the windshield is installed into the car. This is original with the two piece windshield.

Most every windshield that I have seen uses the method whereby you install the stainless trim into the rubber before you put it in.Install the gl*** and the trim and then line up the windshield in the opening.Put a cord in the channel of the rubber.Have someone push the gl*** against the opening.Pull the lip of the rubber over the window opening lip from the inside as pressure is put on the outside.Pull the cord out as you go around the opening, allowing the rubber lip to cover the metal window opening from the inside.I hope I explained it good enough.
