To my friends of the HAMB, I have a 1953 Chevy 150. I rebuilt a 1954- 235 engine- bored .100 over and I installed Fenton Headers. I would like duel exhaust and run it straight out the back. I would like to install gl*** packs because I want the loud raspy sound. <O Question: What size diameter pipes should I run? <O Question: How does this affect the engine if I install 2 or 21/4 in pipes- <O Question: What is back pressure? <O Question: What size gl*** packs should I run- people say it is personal preference- I want it loud so that people will turn their head when I drive by- obnoxious yet not loud enough where I can't hear the person in the car if we were talking. <O Thanks for your support! Bryan <O
My '53 BelAir has 2" pipe from front to rear with 36" long Walker gl***packs. It has a nice tone while cruising, and really raps when you push the pedal down.
Ran 18" body Walker G/Ps on 1-3/4 tail pipes back in the 60s. The rap would wake the dead and get every cops attention for a mile around. Got lots of excessive noise tickeks back then, nowdays every other Harley is louder and no tickets. But inside driving around plenty quiet.
Ihave a set of 24 inch CHERRYBOMBS ON MY 53 CHEVY ,when I rap it off in restaurant parking lots it turns all these modern cars alarms on.REAL GOOD WAY TO GET A TABLE!
I recommend Porter steelpacks and 1 3/4" or 2" pipes...PM Porterman here on the HAMB and he'll get you squared away...
Bryan, 1 3/4" to the gl*** packs then 1 1/2" after the pipes. Listen to the pipes on this thread. Some cool sounds. Todd http://chevybombs.net/forum/index.php?topic=8654.0
On a stovebolt, I'd run 1.5" straight pipe from the headers all the way back to the tips. No gl***packs! Lowrider style. The small pipe diameter should create enough back pressure. When you get on it, it'll sound like a WWII bomber on a dive bombing run. It will also rap out when you let off the gas or when you downshift. A little between shift, if you have a manual trannsmission.
Thanks for your advice. The car is in the shop. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for your time everyone! Best Wishes, Bryan
