Hello! I'm a poor Norwegian student who is wondering to order a bumper from Bumper Boyz. I got a price list, but i don't understand what the different parts is. Can anyone help me? What's the difference between guards and guards deluxe? Is cross bar a grille guard? And means EA each part or each side (front/back)? This is my dream! I don't know if I want the grille guard, but I would like to know what deluxe guards is. And mine.
I think the EA is each, as in one front and one rear or one right and one left Not sure what the difference would be for guards deluxe or just guards. I think the cross bar is the piece attached between the two vertical guards. Lothiandon1940's comment on the Bumper Boyz is in regards to their reputation, some people haven't had a good experience with them. I had the rear bumper on my El Camino rechromed by them they did a nice job and returned it pretty quick but that was 8 or 9 years ago. You're a long ways from California so if there were to be an issue it might be difficult or costly to straiten out. Cool car by the way.
Maybe the fancier Pontiacs had fancier guards, thus the "deluxe". Like a Chieftan was a cheaper model than a Star Chief, etc.
The Bumper Boys are hit and miss ! ! Sometimes you get a good Bumper, etc.... Sometimes you get patched up rechromed junk ! ! I always buy in person from them and fully unwrap the Bumper, etc.. and do a thorough inspection. Being from so far away, I'd hate to see you spend your hard earned money and not get what you would expect. VR&C.
Please be very careful before you order anything from the "Bummer" Boyz, their reputation is at best questionable! I have known a few guys that did not have a very good experience with their bumpers! KK
EA stands for Each (1) Front/ Rear Front or Rear bumper - $440 for the front, $530 for the rear Guards - the vertical bars that bolt onto the middle of the bumper Wing tips - the vertical extensions that bolt onto the ends of the bumper Guards deluxe - bigger or fancier guards Cross bar - the bar that bolts on between the Guards. I believe you must have the larger Deluxe Guards to fit the Cross Bar. Grill 53 Grill 54 - self explanatory Center Grille bar - just the center part of the grille, does not include the surrounding parts For more details contact the seller By the way if their quality is "iffy" and they get an order from Norway, I guarantee they will send you the worst junk they have.
I'd steer clear of Bumper Boyz. They have a ton of bad press, taking cores and never returning them, extremely poor communication and about every other bad business practice you can imagine. Plus the fact that you're dealing with them from Norway makes it even tougher to make them come through on a deal. Google them and you'll see many, many automotive forums with posts about problems with them. https://www.google.com/webhp?source...S600US601&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=bumper boyz
...I can tell you to steer clear of them as others have said.....I have a bumper from them and in less then 2 years it has peeled....miller
Thank you all for the great advices! I've heard alot of bad things about them and just å few who is satisfied. I really need to rechrome/buy a new bumper since the car has new paint and all the other chrome is OK. The cheapest alternativ I've found for rechroming in Norway is $3000. I'm willing to pay upwards to $2000 include shipping for a bumper with guards. Do you have any better alternatives than Bumper Boyz?
I've had good luck with Tri City Plating in Elizabethtown, TN. Try Emailing them to see if they will sell it to you without a trade in.
There is a reason some chroming costs $3000 and some costs $1000..........it is usually the quality of the work and how long the plating lasts. I have had chroming done by several companies over the years, and the cheaper jobs started to turn after a while, but the good plating has been on my car for over 25 years and looks brand new. You are getting great advice on staying away from the BB crowd........they have absolutely ripped off a lot of their customers by keeping their bumpers and stuff like that. Not sure how they stay in business. Run, don't walk away from them. I now use these guys and their work is top notch..........not cheap, but very good: http://gulfplating.com/ I had suggested them to a customer and he came in a few weeks ago to show me the boat cleats they had done for his classic boat...........he was beaming because they were a work of art. Don
This seems to be your options: You can do it for $3000 and you can talk to and deliver it to them in person. You can get it from somebody with questionable reputation for $2000 I know which way I would go. The Bumper Boyz run about half price of the average plater here in the U.S.A. and about 1/3 the price of a show chrome plater. Chrome plating is like painting. There is a reason it is cheaper. Sometimes that is all you want.
Save your money and forget bumper boyz....there chrome is substandard and will start peeling fast,,,I know from experience. Get in touch with Tri-City Plating Co. in Elizabethton, TN 37643 (423) 542-6532 HRP
How about trying across the "little pond"... in England? Surely the freight would not be as bad as to&from the U.S.? Any "limey's" reading this?
Bumper Boyz is pure dog shit. Keep an eye on eBay and see if you can find a nice used one from someone who'll ship it to you. Might take a while but that'd be a lot cheaper. Or if you don't mind customizing, maybe try to fit one of the new reproduction 49-52 Chevy front bumpers to the Pontiac? I would think they'd be close to fitting, and they aren't very expensive at all.
