I have a '63 Corvette with a Rochester fuel injection setup. Came to me not running. Good ignition system throughout, good compression on all cylinders. Fresh fuel. The Fuel injection assembly has been cleaned and rebuilt, including the gear pump and drive cable. The current status is a crank / no start condition. Will run on starting fluid, but is not delivering fuel. Verified that the drive cable is being turned by the distributor. Looking for any ideas on the next direction to get this car going.
I don’t know anything about Rochester f/I, but do you get fuel pressure? Pull a fuel line off and crank the motor.
When mine didn't start it ended up being the cranking signal valve. I believe they were 63 only. But I could be wrong, that was 47 years ago. Something about vac not being enough.
If you don’t already have one, this is the oem Rochester manual. http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/Chevy/53-75Corvette/Rochester Fuel Injection.pdf
thank you everybody, mine doesn't have a crank signal valve, and yes, good fuel pressure to the Rochester.
Jack Podell in Ok. would be the guy to contact. He has been restoring the units for a long time and could point you in the right direction. I don't have his contact info anymore, maybe a google search would work?
Do not run it on ethanol fuel! If it was in the past, the metering system might be crapped up with disintegrated "rubber" parts. That happened to my Rochester FI a few years ago. I had to completely disassemble and clean everything. I now use AVGAS without issues. If you have access to non-E fuel, use that.......we have 90 octane non-E here, but my 327/375 HP engine (12.5:1 CR) needs higher octane. You might get way with 90 if you drive it sanely. If you need new gaskets, etc., as noted above, Podell should be able to fix you up. I have not seen any Ethanol-proof parts though.
Missed that, sorry. The one I bought years ago had the late model info attached. I didn’t look far enough. Apparently you still have to pay for the 63-65 unit manuals.
