my buddy's 57 f100 back fired and stalled under heavy acceleration the other day and now it will not start its a 351w with an automatic. its getting fuel its getting good spark, we put new plugs and wires on it tonight it needed them. now it cranks but will not start not even try. I'm thinking the timing chain jumped but it cranks fine not to fast and doesn't spit up through the carb? any fresh ideas this is his only mean of transportation. frustration was getting the better of us so why had to step away from it tonight. thanks in advanceT

What kind of carb was it? Holleys had some kind of problem with the power valves failing after an engine backfire.

Line up the timing marks and check to see where the rotor is pointing.

I would start with timing issues also like sad before...if you got fuel, got fire, then timing is next... Good luck and let us know
