I have a 46 ford pickup with stock leaf springs and 3in drop axle.(stock cast axle that has been stretched). I want to use a newer style shock instead of the friction shocks. I have upper f1 truck mounts. but my front axle has lower mount for the shock. ive don't some research on here and haven't found a lot.

I was wondering if it ok to weld a piece of tubing to the lower part of a axle so It looks like 48 truck axle or a nice way to drill a whole in the axle or making make a mount that wraps around the axle but scared it would cheesey.

ive seen some aweseom fab work on the site and I would like some help with ideas or picture of what people have done.

    Thanks

When I did my '42, I found a '49 F-1 axle core to have dropped so that I would have the lower mounts. I know your past that point now soooo....

Welding a spud on the axle would be an acceptable way to do it as long as you have someone handy that can do a good job with the welding. Or how about making a plate that would sandwich between the axle and the spring that contains the shock mount? then it wouldn't require welding on the axle itself.
