I'm looking at converting the front drums on my 58 Chev, Delray to disks. Hate to pay the prices that are being asked out there for repop stuff. Whether direct swap or 2"drop, either will do.

Are there any GM vehicles out there that I can swap out the Spindles or better yet A arms and spindles?

I have heard that downunder they use parts from a GM Holden (obviously a car not sold here, US/Canada)

    ThanX
All suggestions would be greatly appreaciated.

the cheapest way seems to be to get the aftermarket brackets, and scrounge some calipers and rotors, and a dual m/c.

Otherwise the closest swap I could think of would be the more expensive late 60s GM factory disc brake stuff, and it's not a direct swap.

sometimes you just gotta go with the flow....

I loaned this dude a '64 Pontiac spindle and he made a set of brackets for the 59-64 fullsize Pontiacs to convert to discs. Conversion used off the shelf parts. If he doesn't have your application yet he can fab the brackets.

ThanX, but unfortunately he does not support the 58. Just got an email reply back from him.

    burger,
Great list of parts but what do those parts attach to? Would I still have to buy an aftermarket caliper bracket?

I bought a caliper bracket kit from Impala Bob's it comes
with spacers and hardware for $129.00 . It uses monte carlo rotors and calipers which you can easily find @ parts stores. I'm running a 74 corvette m/c. Check out Impala Bob's .com. Good luck Spanky.

    His reply to my email....

Frank, we checked out a 58 and realised it is a lone year, our stuff does not fit, so we will need to make a setup for it. (if we decide to go ahead...)

I've never done the swap myself. I just save a lot of info from the HAMB and that's part of what I've saved.

Anyway, the last line of the quote says that you'll have to buy an aftermarket adapter. The original poster made it out to be a fairly common part and even lists two vendors.

    Hope this helps,
    Ed

which drop spindles are you talking about? many of the aftermarket drop spindles are made for disk brakes....no adapter needed.

If I decided to purchase drop spindles, say from LateGreatChevy... Can I then proceed to hunt parts from the list above?

    OR

Do I have to purchase the brackets to be able to use the parts from the list above?

if you are buying dropped spindles the best thing to do would be to check with the manufacturer and see what calipers, rotors, and brackets they recommend

yup, you'll probably need different rotors and calipers....there is better stuff out there now than what was used on the old adapter kits

Forget the dropped spindles. Spend that money on caliper brackets and brake parts. One coil cut from the spring is about 2in of drop and works fine.

I have a 58 Delray 4 door that I want to convert to power brakes, especially the front. Is there a easy/inexpensive way to do so that you've found?
