we were talking today at the shop about the new motor oils dont have the zinc and other additives like the old oils used to have. so some of us who are not running new motors, still running the old stock stuff, is there any additive we could buy to mix in with these new so called oils so we dont damage our motors? have some of you had any good luck with them? thanks

the search is your friend, search zinc or zddp and you'll find more than you ever wanted to know.

Comp cams makes an additive as well. Brand Penn oil still has zinc and phosphorus

  4. I use the Kendall brand that specifically has the zinc. But so a search. Lots of info out there

My local NAPA carries a Lucas Zinc Additive, as does my engine builder. Comp Cams, Joe Gibbs, and others sell their own oil through speed shops that has it, too.

  6. I always buy the oil in the coolest package. If the packaging is good you know its good oil. Usually snake oil is the best for all around versatility, and those old guys in those gypsy lookin' wagons are really cool.

  7. That's good advise! I think purple packaging will make it go faster too:)

Valvoline racing oil it what I use in the street driven flathead motor and it has plenty of proper addative without having to add any thing. On my A model I use a standard 40 weight oil and add a pint of STP which still has Zinc. On all my small motors I use just standard type of oil and add the stp as needed and have been doing this several years without any cam/lifter problems.

STP in the blue bottle has zinc in it. Read the label.
