I just got a 1960 Corvair and have never had a car with an air cooled engine so I am very unfamiliar with the way it functions. Looking for any information about how the heater works. I know....it is not winter yet... but I want my car to be fully functioning. Thanks for your help!
simple answer is the exhaust pipe runs inside a chamber that captures the hot air from the exhaust and has doors that close of the outside air and uses the air the engine pushes over it self to cool the heads to heat the air little square door on each side of the engine check to see the door seals are there and the cables work to shut and open them, and then the air is channeled up a duct under the car and to the front where a blower is used just like a normal car to defrost or floor vents, or they had a gas heater under the hood, do google search many corvair websites, biggest thing is you aint gonna get much heat just driving around short trip, in georgia i would not worry about a heater, the biggest thing would be able to shut it off so macke sure your doors and cables work, they can throw off alot heat in moderate weather i drove corvairs for 20 years in minnesota, and some worked great even in really cold winters , others would not
