Anyone know what CFM Holley 2487 is? It seems like it came on ford trucks? Appears to have a ford number of C2TE-9510-M/R? Thanks!
Thank you! Would you happen to know of any Holley 2V that are in the 350CFM range that came on Fords? I’m trying to piece together a 3x2 setup without forking out the change for the real deal Carbs
The good is those are cheap and easy to work on. The good if you run only one is you can use a 4 barrel air cleaner and no one knows you have a two barrel without looking. The bad is they are bulky as hell and those air horns take a hell of a lot of room. There may not be room for three in a row. To run 3 in a row on a 3x2 intake on a V8 you may have to run some sort of Air cleaner spacer on the second and third ones to have clearance with stair stepped air cleaners.
Holley used to make 'stock replacement' 2 barrel carbs for most late '50s/'60s Ford motors and you could buy them either at a parts store or from the Ford dealer. They weren't cheap even then though so they've never been common. Holley quit making these years ago. The most common one you'll see is the 500 CFM version made for class racers who were restricted to a 2 barrel, these can be spotted by their center-pivot fuel bowl. You see these used at the swap meets on occasion and can still buy these new (although they're not $50 anymore! LOL) but make terrible street carbs... AMHIK. The biggest OEM user that I'm aware of was International as they generally used Holley carbs but most of theirs were weird versions with things like solenoids and/or governors attached to them or non-standard base plates. Any Ford-numbered two barrel Holley carbs you'll find other than for factory 3-2 setups will very likely be a service replacement for a Autolite that Ford no longer made/stocked. Autolite 2100 carburetor - Wikipedia This will give you an idea of the size ranges, although the Holley replacements weren't exact. The Hollys used on the three carb applications were/are unique and have never been cheap. They are reproducing these, but current prices are astronomical....
Steve, the Holleys were stock on some Fords, can’t remember all, but I do know the 1959 Fird truck 292 came stock with a two barrel Holley. We still have that truck on the ranch. And is saw a lot of Holleys on vehicles of that era, but can’t testify as to them being original, but the sheer number I saw indicated original. Why do you say the 500 cfm Holley makes a terrible street carb? I have put more than several on cars we can’t talk about here with awesome results! Also on a few larger Ford V-8s. I did it back when you could get them cheap and they came with a manual choke. Just my experiences! Bones
I know 2 owners of early Birds who switched from multiple carburetors to a single 4 barrel. Both were happy that they did. When comparing a single 4 barrel to a single 2 barrel, both having similar cfm ratings, the 4 barrel will have smaller primaries, will be more responsive at lower rpm, and be more fuel efficient under normal driving conditions, but it sounds like you're more interested in the look of multiple carburetors. I would not experiment; it could be time consuming, costly, and frustrating. Use a combination that others have used with satisfaction.
I’m headed right for that combo! Lol, but I am going in with my eyes wide open! I just like 3x2s! It’s just me! Bones
Had a 58 Impala with a factory 3X2 setup which I converted to manual progressive linkage. I loved the way it responded. I was driving back and forth to college and ran on the center 2bbl most of the time, but it was a real kick in the rear to open the end carbs. Would love to have a 3X2 setup on my nailhead, but it's in a Model A and I just don't have the room.
Back many many moons ago my friend/ neighbor and I put a 3X2s on his 1958 348 powered Impala. I was just 14, but I thought it was the coolest thing since dry ice! It actually ran worse than the single four barrel that we took off and he never did like it nor did it ever run right. But it was kool! I, to this day blame our youth and inexperience on the problem. But that craving for 3X2s has never left me. I hope to some day get my 3X2s set up running on the 462 FE I am building for my avatar car! I will think of my friend when I do! Bones
That’s going to be me! I know better, but I can’t help myself! I have even thought of checking into the Henry Ford Clinic and start that 12 step program, but.............! Bones
