Hi guys I am after some advise on how to clean and restore these Magnesium wheel
I have been told to soda blast and then soak in transmission fluid.
As you can see in the pictures the front two are much darker than the rears.
Thought I'd better ask the question here as many of you guys would have had experience with these before and I don't want to stuff these up.
    Thanks in advance

This seems to be the go to stuff for Magnesium wheels...

Search ''Gibbs'' here on the HAMB.

I use eagle one mag wheel etching cleaner let them soak for 10 minutes scrub them down the. Rinse wi water dry them off good and coat the, with Gibbs. I blasted a pair once and it's taken two year and they still aren't as grey as I want.

@fast30coupe is right. Do not blast them. Use a mag wheel cleaner and coat liberally with Gibbs. I can't ever get Gibbs locally but I have bought it from a guy on the #HAMB. Do a search and you can find it. I have had good success with dish soap and a scothbright kitchen sponge used lightly but it takes forever.

The best way to protect them is to have them Dow 7 coated which was the original finish from Halibrand. Used wheels will not end up in the bright gold that is a feature of Dow coated new castings but they usually come up as a dark brownish gold that looks good. Finding a company that will do the Dow process for small volume is near impossible but it you want to go that way PM me as I know a guy that has done a number of them for dragster restoration projects.
