I brought home a older car a few months back and parked it in the garage. I guess it was full of black widow spiders cause now my garage is overrun with them. I was cool with just killing them as I came across them (1 or 2 a day) but my wife found one in the house earlier this week. I told one of the guys at work that I called Clark pest control and that they were coming on Friday to shoot me a quote. He said not to let them fog the garage cause it'll ruin any chrome in there. I asked the Clark guy about that just a few minutes ago and he said he'd never heard of that before. Is there any truth to that. Will Pyrethrin (the bug killer) mess up chrome. Thanks for any answers.
I had a colony of ants living in my wagon when I parked it over the winter. I left an open coke that was half full. Not smart. So I got one of those foggers, rolled up the windows, and pulled the pin. Let it air out for a couple days, then drove it around with all windows down. Did the trick. Also, when I bought my lady's falcon, the guy had it parked for a few months. I limped it home after buying it, and the whole way home I felt something tickling my leg. Turns out there was a colony of black widows living under the dash, and in the engine compartment. Scared the **** outta me! I got out my pressure washer, and blasted the hell out of the whole outside of the car, and vacuumed the inside. Seems to have worked, now the only widows are in my garage! I am gonna DIY bug bomb it. I hate those nasty *******s! As far as chrome goes, I've never heard of that before. But if they are in your house, I would maybe see about a professional service like Clark. It would probably be worth the $ for peace of mind. Good luck, Erron
I'vge had them in two shops I worked at. There is some insect killer in a green bottle with yellow top and sprayer that works. It is supposed to be diluted, but don't. I've sprayed some of the bigger widows with a solid stream of BG carb cleaner and watched them walk away.
You "bugged" by a few Widows? Don't move to So. Cal.! You pick up something around here you bang it on the ground a couple times just out of general principles and step on what runs. Usually there's only one per brake drum or whatever, they kill anything in their territiory, including their mates, thats why they're called Widows. The ones that freak me out are the ones in the hedge next to the driveway. There's an abundance of all kinds of bugs this year because of the near-record rainfall, but I don't know why they are up there. Was it a So Cal car? If you don't have pets of small kids, try boric acid powder (yea it's poison) sprinkled in all the hiding places. It kills roaches and fleas, so it'll probably work on spiders. and stays working till you wash the garage. bugs and spiders like water so hosing them out is not necessarily the long term answer, but it gets them out for now! Just learn to recognize their raggedy looking "cobweb" webs. On the poison. I was putting some kind of an poison in a pressure spray can once and spilled some on the funnel shaped opening and it took the paint off it instantaneously and the spray can of termite spray I have says on the label "Acts as an excellent paint remover." and I can attest to that. It has a nozzle tube with a 'hypo" needle on the end you stick in infested wood and squirt it inside. it bubbled ALL the paint off a window sash in a matter of seconds. One more thing, if you fog the garage and it's attached to the house, guess where all the bugs in the garage are going to run for cover? Tent the whole structure at once and you'll be good till next spring when the next generation arrives.
I don't mean to steal your thread, but how about some tips on keeping the bugs OUT of your car, especially while stored in the winter? I've got my project car in the heated house garage, but I've got a few more out in the garage out back that don't get used or worked on much in the winter with no heat out there. Maybe in a few more years, after insulation is done
It's not just California, we got oddles of Black Widows in Texas this year too. The wife finds several every day in her flower pots and outdoor gardeny places. Can anyone tell me about how much a professional exterminator charges to do a house? I've seen some Black Widows around our windows and doors, it's only a matter of time till I find one inside I'm sure.
"how about some tips on keeping the bugs OUT of your car" I use a few fabric softener sheets (Bounce) in the Caddy when its being stored. I just put them on the floor mats.Seems to work pretty well if they are kept fresh.
A word of advice to anyone dealing with Black Widows: the venom is several times MORE toxic than a Rattlesnake......so be careful.... We usually spray any commercial type of antkiller around our wheels and tires to help deter fireants from setting up shop in our truck............
I had Clark pest control here yesterday and he quoted me $145 for the initial spraying. But Clark makes you sign a 1 year contract so they charge you $84 every two months for follow up spraying. Thats based on a house under 2000 sq. feet. I'm going to call Monday to find out what a one time extermination costs.
