Hello fellow hambers, i am puting a 36 buick in line 8 into my 40 pu roadster project, I have a 9 inch rear end. the tranny is the stock 3 speed with the old tork tube, but the rear end is drive shaft. i have it all set up with a 26 t rear leaf with ladder bar. what do i need to do with the tranny to adapt it to drive shaft. this truck looks very cool, we are gtting it ready for viva this year. we have a crew coming down and want to dive her their. if any one can help please let me know.
In about 1968 I put a 401 nailhead with trans in my 56 Chev truck. Then I realized the torque tube wouldn't work. Genius, I cut off the first 6" or so of the tube, had the front of the driveshaft cut off and spliced onto the open shaft of the truck. The machinist looked a little puzzled. It slid right in through the seal inside and worked like new money. If you jacked up the truck by the frame too far the trans fluid would run on the ground. Other than that it worked fine. I do not recommend this set up, but in my 24 year old mind it was OK even though it looked hokey. SO-AZ's old man.
