Hey guys I need some help deciding on my options for my truck. I am Building a 1955 Ford F100, I have a 351w out of a late 80's van that im going to put into it. I would like to go with a mannual transmission 4 or 5 speed. I am on a budget and would like to stay away from the t-5 due to the shifter position and the fact that it can only handle aproxamitly 300-330 ft/lbs of tourqe. Any information on my options and what I could find it in would be of much help!
Google David kee toploaders and look through their Id charts to start. If you could locate the right trans and afford to have them go through it, a toploader would be a good option if overdrive isn't a concern. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
How about an M5R2 out of a '90's Ford pickup? I have one in my '66 Merc pickup. Not running yet, but it bolted right up to my 351W with all stock parts. The shifter comes out of the same hole in the floorboard as the farmer four did.
M5R2 is fine except reverse is like third gear and you have to smoke the clutch to back uphill. If you aren't planning to speedshift a lot, I'd say the big ZF 5 speed. I have one behind a warmed up 300 and love it.
